Houston Community College has accepted my application to undertake a nursing course. I am expected to start the training in the Spring of 2020. This program will take 2years, after which I will enroll at the University of South Florida for a Bachelor of Science in nursing degree in 2023. My professional goal is to seek an opportunity to work in HFC after completing the first degree and practice nursing exceptionally.

I look forward to getting a chance to work in the Emergency Department of Florida hospital. The reason as to why I would like to work in Florida is because I will be close to my elderly parents. If I get a job in Florida, it will be possible to continue with my studies while at the same time caring for my aging parents who have been struggling to pay my school fees. I hope to get a job at Tampa General Hospital since it is near my home so that I can help my parents. Since the hospital is near my home, I will be able to look after my parents and be present during all my shifts.

Reasons for Applying for this Scholarship

The scholarship caters for the tuition and book fees, which is the biggest percentage of the resources that I spent while learning. I am still a part-time student facing financial constraints; therefore, the scholarship will help in reducing my education expenses. The financial constraints in my education are also affecting my aging parents; they work at a restaurant in an effort to try and support me in my studies. The little pay that my parents get all is spent in my studies, making life challenging to afford basic commodities such as food and access to healthcare.

My aging parents face challenges in their work because of old age; they are forced to wake up very early in the morning and work till late at night to earn extra money. In the recent past, the health of my father worsened. The sad thing is that he has to continue working while facing health challenges. Our family does not have enough resources to cater to his medical bills; hence, sometimes, he is not able to get treated. Having the scholarship will reduce the burden that my parents have in paying school fees and buying the textbooks.

My parents are committed to my education because I am their only child, and they would like to see me succeed in my medical field career. My parents encouraged me to concentrate on my studies and avoid working while learning. My career in nursing requires seriousness while studying; hence, most of the time, I spent reading. I have been working extra more to improve my academics and qualify for the scholarship and in turn, reduce the burden that my parents have to bear. The scholarship will be a kind of encouragement to put more effort into my studies.
