In the current generation, cancer is among the dreaded diseases to ever occur to mankind together with HIV/AIDS. It has is among the top causes of deaths in many countries. Making matters worse, no cure for the condition has been established. My father fell victim to the disease when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. It deeply affected me at the knowledge of the above because of the contribution he made to the family.
The other family members that were dependent on him also felt the impact and forecasted a void in the well-being of my dad. Never before, at the family level had we had such a case apart from hearing the same from the news. The above implied that we had to psychologically prepare ourselves and my dad too for the outcome of the diseases. However, despite the above, it was necessary that he be monitored closely in the entire time of his cancerous stages.
In a bid to help ease his transition through the acceptance of his conditions, I will advise on various things on what he should do and what he should not do. For instance, I will guide him on the diet to maintain the transitions to different stages of cancer development. The diet will encompass the foods he is supposed to consume and those he is not supposed to use at every stage. The above will also be of the essence in keeping him away from other health conditions that are cancer-related.
I will encourage him to accept going through the various types of therapies related to cancer that will at least lengthen his life. Such include the various body scans and the different types of chemotherapies that he was to regularly undergo. I will individually make everyone aware of his condition in a bid to perpetuate his normal interaction with the people around him in the due course to prevent any form of discrimination and depression due to isolation. The above will enable him to feel wanted as much as he is ailing from the condition and in turn, remain of benefit during his entire time of stay.
According to Kubler Ross stages of grief, my dad will go not through all of the stages of dying. I will ensure that he does not experience any form of emotional deprivation like the ordinary terminally ill patients prior to his death. All the five stages as established by Kubler-Ross which include, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance will be avoided. It will be due to the closer supervision that I will advance to him and ensure a normal interaction with his surroundings. I will not disclose the stages of his cancer development to him or any other family member in a bid to reduce the levels of fear in him.
Conclusion
The above will, in turn, boost his ego and make him remain confident in as long as he is ailing from the scourge. I will encourage him by claiming that the disease is just like any other to intensify personal disease management measures that will be essential to him. I will not rebuke or isolate him especially during the therapies because I have heard of how painful they are. I will make children aware and warn them of looking down upon him. In a bid to prepare the loved ones for his passing, I will ensure that they are aware of the cause of his death and every stage of cancer development that will trigger the death.
