Introduction
My philosophy is that students should be in a productive learning environment that encourages the inclusion of each student. Students should take part in a safe and nurturing learning environment that encourages each student's learning interest. It is important that we support their cultural background and get involved with each student.
Intended Career Path
I am currently a Child Youth Program Assistant in the Infant/Pretoddler room for Eagle child development center. I have been working for Eagle Child development center for about the past eight months. Before I started working at my current job I use to work at KinderCare as a Lead toddler teacher for seven years. I am working to obtain my degree in Early childhood education for my career path, I plan on teaching in an elementary school the grades I would prefer to work with are Pre-K and Kindergarten. I want to give my students a safe and nurturing environment that will allow my students to advance. The Career in Early Childhood Education is designed to help me achieve professional training in educational care for children from 0 to 6 years of age that prepares them to develop didactic proposals at this stage. From a modern and sensitive teaching approach that knows how to transmit both culture and values positively. The field of early childhood education is full of many exciting career opportunities. Career potential includes working directly with young children and their families in public and private schools, Head Start programs, child care centers, home-based programs, and family child care homes.
Professional Dispositions
Professional dispositions are the beliefs, principles, and attitude that underpin the success that a teacher has in the classroom. They operate as normative standards of professional practice at its highest level of uniqueness, that is, the professional in his work situation. In more specific terms, it constitutes a prototype of relatively lasting dispositions in the ways of acting, thinking and feeling professional activity. In my chosen field Early Childhood education, professional dispositions are highly essential. Regarding my dispositions, first and foremost, I will maintain a consolidated professional ethic and social responsibility that allows forming in the students the noblest and purest feelings towards their surroundings: the environment, the family, home, educators, peers, friends and everything that shapes their moral and social values. That is especially important to me showing students how to be respectful to others will help them with positive behaviors.
I will give my students choices during center time letting them choose which learning center they want to go to will help them become independent and advance. I will provide a personalized educational response to my students, who are from diverse cultural backgrounds, and thus establish the appropriate strategies that allow them study properly, according to the capabilities and needs of each of them. Other skills and practices that will drive my practice of teaching, caring, and leading the children include: Assess the psychological development of my students, and critically and reflexively assess the development of the pedagogical process in daily professional practice, both in the children's home and in community work.
Definition of Inclusion
Early childhood is the most important period of life in terms of development, it is at this stage that the cognitive, emotional and social foundations of people are laid, which are influenced by the environmental conditions in which they operate (Booth & Ainscow, 1998). Inclusion is a process that aims to provide opportunities for development and social integration to all children, adolescents, youth and adults in an equitable way, preventing discrimination and segregation of any kind, respecting and valuing diversity as a fundamental principle of citizen life (Ainscow, Booth, & Dyson, 2006). Inclusion for me means all students, without exception, should receive opportunities for development and social integration in an equitable and inclusive manner from their first years of life. The definition of Inclusion to me means to supply a productive learning environment that meets every student needs academically. Inclusion implies collaborative work between management teams, educators, technicians and assistants to education, mothers, fathers and parents, all of whom make up the educational community, with the main focus on the students, where a well-treating environment based on respect, equity and appreciation of the other must prevail.
Current State of Inclusion
Inclusive education has undergone quite encouraging developments and received appreciation and enthusiasm from various groups, especially education practitioners (Casey, 2019). But so far in its implementation in the field, there are various issues and problems. The implementation of inclusive schools in has not run smoothly because there are still many obstacles and problems besides curriculum problems that are appropriate with the implementation, including (Yusuf and Yeager, 2011): The number of children with special needs that is registered in schools is small, policies that do not support inclusive education, lack of budget, lack of human resources support, and community paradigm/views on inclusive education (Yusuf and Yeager, 2011).
Overtime there have been a lot of inclusion classrooms development all over the country, and the main education stakeholders (government, teachers, schools, and the community) encourage disabled children to be provided with education (Children's Therapy Place, 2013). Reading over the text students are spending their time in the classroom. I feel that students that disabled are treated unfairly this made me have a better understanding of the disabled. They should have the same opportunities as others. According to Powell & Driver (2013), students can be provided with special services in a general classroom such as additional support, accommodations, assistance from special education teachers or aids and from general teachers, or assistance from interpreter.
Importance of Collaboration
In today's society, education has increasingly moved out of school walls and into other social spaces. This is a challenging scenario for educators, as they need to rethink pedagogical practice. A subject that has gained relevance in recent years is the relationship between school and community. Nowadays, partnership with families is no longer the only objective of school management. Building a positive relationship with the surrounding population is also important for the development of children's schools and students (Bang, 2018). The school especially that of early childhood education, has a fundamental role in the development of children and in the construction of citizenship. Its function goes beyond practice within the classroom. Thus, the role of educators influences not only children and their families, but also the neighborhood in which the school is inserted and society as a whole (Lawton, 2017). The presence of this institution must be a positive differential in the community - this partnership is important for everyone.
Collaboration play and exceptional learning in inclusive environments is enhanced by making sure the teacher builds relationships with all the students. Parents and communities must be involved in the student's education parental partnership (Mereoiu, Abercrombie, & Murray, 2016). Parents are the first educators of their children, and they should not think that it is a task of the government and educators to educate their children, they are a significant part of this process. Collaborating with the teacher is also one of the best ways to support a child's learning (Novick, 2016). Both share a common goal: to offer the child the best educational experience. Parents know their children better than anyone, but working with the teacher can help them better understand their children. It allows the parent to talk about what he/she is observing at home that the teacher may not be seeing in the classroom.
It is important to include parents in the students' education and build trustful relationships that create effective communicating of the curriculum between the teacher and families. Collaborating with the child's teacher can have a powerful impact on the parent, the teacher, and the child. Excellent communication with the teacher makes it easier for the parent to get to know their child better. Collaborating allows the parent to relate what happens at home to what happens at school (Bang, 2018). Moreover, collaborating with the child's teacher can have a powerful impact. When a parent and the teacher have a good relationship and communicate frequently, it is easier to help the student progress in school.
Early Childhood education and Inclusion
Being in the Early childhood education field it has taught me that every student in your classroom is different and comes from different cultural backgrounds (Milburn, 2018). Every student has a different learning style so you as a teacher you have to always be prepared. I like to always have my lesson plans planned out at least a month ahead. My lesson plans will be made for every student in my classroom no matter if they have a disability. I want my students to be treated and respected the same.
It is very important that toddlers with disabilities access the educational system. All of our educational programs must receive infants with needs that may be temporary, due to specific language problems; situations of socio-cultural or emotional deprivation; maturational delays; emotional or permanent alterations, associated with auditory, visual, motor or intellectual deficiencies, among others (Artiles et al., 2006). With the age group of diverse learners my definition collaborates with allowing my students to explore their learning abilities further.
The educational curriculum for kindergartens or early education programs should be built for everyone. An inclusive education is one capable of delivering timely quality responses to diversity (Booth & Ainscow, 1998). The emotional environment of the kindergarten, the nursery or the educational program is very important. Teaching materials must be adapted for boys and girls with different disabilities. For example, in the case of blindness or low vision, ensure that they have relief, and verify that the figure-background relationship of the letters or figures is the most appropriate.
Using Evidence-Based Strategies
Using evidence-based strategies is crucial in creating an inclusive environment. I will use a universal design for learning (UDL) approach. UDL is a way of thinking about teaching and learning that helps all students have an equal opportunity to be successful (Rose et al., 2018). This approach offers flexibility in how students access, care about, and demonstrate what they know (Meo, 2008). Developing a lesson plan in this way helps all kids, but can be particularly beneficial for those with learning and attention issues. The goal of the UDL is to use a variety of teaching methods to remove barriers that interfere with learning, and to offer all students the same opportunities to be successful. It is proposed to develop flexibility that can be adapted according to the strengths and needs of each student (Rose et al., 2018). That is why the UDL benefits all students. This teaching approach is not specifically designed for kids with learning and attention issues (Meo, 2008).
