Other than the definition of humanity science by anthropology in bases of evolution history, biological factors also play a greater role in human behavior and actions (Stoller and Paul 1989). In the current world, various biological related factors such as disease have contributed highly to changes in human behavior due to their fatal effect resulting from them. For instance, since the invasion by COVID-19, the lives of human beings have completely changed by a bigger margin. Thus, this essay will aim at discussing the information I obtained from my ethnographic observation that included time margin from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in his family regarding how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the lives of the residential community.
First, in the early hours of the day, the usual activities are accompanied by other products such as the sanitizers. However at 7 am, no one was in a hurry to leave the house as it was before the pandemic. Other than the usual focus by the family members on work matters, most of the people have turned their attention on the daily COVID-19 update whereby they cannot afford to miss even a single news headline in a day as demonstrated in the case of my Father. Moreover, my Ethnographic Observation also demonstrates the state of worriedness living with peoples both children and adults due to the continuing increase of the cases whereby from my observation no one of my siblings who always listened and browsed about the pandemic.
Further, looking at my Ethnographic Observation data at midmorning i.e. 9 am the situation is not different from what was experienced in the morning. Most of the family members have adopted the indoor lives where their main agenda is watching the COVID 19 update from various channels such as CNN and Aljazeera. The usual noise of the children playing and cars moving in and out of their dive ways in most of the premises have gone to extinct. According to my Ethnographic Observation, the situations seem to have led to the loss of jobs mainly among the private employees as in the case of my father who is a private contractor who claims to have no jobs since his client claim to have no money. While others are left with the fear of the diminished economy if the scientist does not work hard to come up with the cure as early as possible as evidence by my mother.
Other than the silence experienced in the household compounds, at 11 am the condition also reflects itself on the streets whereby most of the cars are parked on people’s houses compounds. Further, the life on the street also remains disserted with the usual children ford of playing on the street being nowhere to be found. For the few who in some instances drove in and out of their homes, had to practice unusual activities which involves maintaining clean hygiene which involved using sanitizers to rub their hands and covering themselves with protective facemask when on-board. Further, handling of commodities such as groceries has changed since one is required to first sanitize his/her hands as evidenced in one scenario in my neighbors’ compound who arrived in their family car. Moreover, the condition has also changed the individual ways of socializing. The usually known method of socializing such as hand greetings and hugging has completely been substituted with short greetings while maintaining a distance.
Moreover, the effects of the pandemic are also established to have proceeded among the family members. Based on my Ethnographic Observation data obtained at 6 p.m., the results evidenced the diminishing social relationship between the children and their parents. According to my observation, most of the children used to come out and hug their parents in the evening when they return home from work. However, on that fateful evening, as I sited on the porch, two of my neighbors cars pulled up to my surprise no child came out to welcome their parent as it was before the pandemic when the children used to come out and hug their parents and escort them in the house. Additionally, pandemic life seems to have affected not only the family but also other different people who contribute to the sustainability of social living. For instance, in my Ethnographic Observation at 6: 30 pm, when I came across the watchman who was in charge of security in my neighbors compound, his expression on how pandemic has changed his life really proved that the pandemic had coasted the entire society. From his response, it shows that the common human social interaction had completely been eroded. The watchman claimed that the condition in the neighborhood had turned calm since no children were playing as it used to be. Further, the watchman response demonstrated how the social interaction between people had been affected by the pandemic. From his response, the watchman claimed that the fear of contracting the virus by residents, nobody wanted to shake hands with him.
Conclusion
Generally, looking at my entire Ethnographic Observation, it really demonstrated how the COVID-19 pandemic has led to the change of human lives. From the data collected, it reflects that the pandemic has changed not only the social interaction among people but also economic status. The condition has further left several people in worries which only they believe will be solved through cure establishment.
