1. What do you think it is like to be the person giving the instructions (the guide), and why?
Giving instructions is not as easy as it involves various guidelines and descriptions of the shapes and layout of the components. Being an instructor is complicated than it may look because the person the instructions at times may not merely understand the instructions. At the end of the game, an instructor may question oneself of the instructions that he or she may provide for other people in life without them understanding, could it be the words that we use to give instructions. The game would make one think critically and choose the correct words to use when giving instructions.
2. What do you think it is like to be the person receiving the instructions (the builder with the blindfold on), and why?
Receiving instructions in the course of the game may be the favorite part for most people; a person receiving guidelines has to be attentive as the game involves success and failure. It is fun receiving instructions; the empathy toy helps one to learn the importance of listening carefully, maintain the conversation. Receiving instructions helps one to learn their inner self, how they receive, understand, and respond to the instructions given. Receiving instructions makes one struggle working together with an instructor and brings together people to argue always and figure out the reason for the communication disconnect.
3. Why do you think empathy is essential to communication?
Empathy is essential for effective communication; this is a major take away from empathy toy games. It helps people communicate their ideas in a manner that makes sense not only to them but to those receiving the instructions or the ideas. Empathy helps us to understand other people; for instance, the person receiving instructions must pay attention, understand, and respond effectively to succeed in the game. With empathy, one can understand the emotional feeling of another person in a given situation and understand why they make sense at that moment. With empathy, we get to choose the right words when communicating; it, therefore, helps people be creative and communicate effectively.
4. How could you apply what you have learned about empathy when dealing with challenges at school, work, or home? Show answers for 2
Empathy is a tool for effective communication and solving problems among colleagues in different environments. In school, group work requires creativity and choice of language to help understand one another; empathy, therefore, is applicable in situations. Also, empathy ca help to solve conflicts as empathy involves emotional understanding, conflicts are frequent in school, and it is vital to understand the emotional feelings involved. At work empathy is useful in the situation where colloquies have to work together to accomplish a particular task, with empathy I can give proper instructions and understand my co-worker, empathy helps colloquies to struggle to operate together.
5. How do you see empathy applying to a) teamwork/diversity and b) life experiences? Respond to both teamwork/diversity and life experiences
Diversity: Embracing empathy in a diverse environment is essential; people in organizations come from different backgrounds, have different ages, varying levels of education, or job positions. With empathy, it helps one to accommodate all these differences, assume a different mindset, and understand other people accordingly. Empathy is useful for understanding other people's perspectives in a diverse environment. It is also useful in improving interpersonal relationships communication regardless of the diversity
Life Experiences: In life, people go through different experiences; besides this, communication and social interactions are part of life. Therefore, with empathy, people can share their experiences through effective communication and understanding. Through empathy, people can show compassion to their loved ones, friends, and even strangers.
