Even after our supreme court declaration of abortion as a fundamental right on January 22, 1973, it is a big debate whether it should be legal. After the ruling of the Roe vs. wade case, over 60 million abortions have been performed legally. Some believe that abortion should be licensed and insured, that is, the pro-choice champions, and not limited by the state or religious bodies. However, some pro-choice supporters believe that the procedure should be a last resort. In contrast, others defend that it should be performed anytime without any restrictions and under any situation such as incest, rape, or when the life of a woman is in danger. The pro-life are those that champion for a ban on abortion. They oppose the continuity of public funds towards the promotion or performance of the procedure.
The American law declares that abortion is a right that has been given by US legislation. Roe Wade accepts abortion rights as they have been made to be laws of the land, giving a woman the chance to decide by using non-literal language. On the other hand, abortion is going against God as it terminates the life of the innocent unborn child. It is an intentional action taken by the human being who does not care about the child's life.
The choice of abortion gives women the reproductive choice and control over their bodies. Whether to keep the pregnancy or terminate it, women have the sovereignty and power to decide their future ("Abortion - Pros & Cons - Procon.Org"). The right has liberated women making them able to determine the course of their lives and enjoy equivalent citizenship stature. Those against abortion believe that unborn babies who are stereotyping have a right to life as human beings since life starts at conception. A human being is created after fertilization with a distinctive genetic identity that remains unchanged throughout the individual's life. The human hence needs to be protected and a fundamental right to life.
Pro-choice defenders feel that living begins after a fetus is born and not at conception. They argue that abortion is the termination of pregnancy and not a baby as embryos and fetuses are not independent human beings ("Abortion - Pros & Cons - Procon.Org"). Someone's years are calculated as from birth and not from conception. The statement of the pro-choice is biased according to those who do not support the act. They feel that life begins after conception has fetuses incur pain during the procedure as studied by doctors. There is some ambiguity in the statement as the pro-choice supporters believe that fetuses are not capable of experiencing pain during abortions as the reactions observed in fetuses are mere reflexes and not an indication that the fetus is perceiving pain.
Abortions that are performed legally and professionally minimize the chances of maternal injury and death that occurs from unsafe, criminal abortions. In developing nations where safe and legal abortions are hard to access, maternal deaths are estimated to be high ("Abortion - Pros & Cons - Procon.Org"). According to the pro-life supporters, the statement has potential errors of truth as abortion is not a private right, and the decision in the ruling of Roe v. Wade was a mistake and should be reversed.
Some studies indicate that late abortion is safe and does not result in health complications such as infertility. According to pro-life proponents, the opinions stated as facts are stereotyped as abortion has serious consequences such as psychological harm. Young women who undergo the procedure are at a risk of facing depression and stress. Besides, abortions minimize the number of babies that can be adopted. Women have a choice to give their babies to those who cannot conceive rather than terminate their pregnancies. However, advocating for the act sees that women who perform the procedure are not likely to agonize from mental diseases as compared to those who defy the action and no not abort.
The woman has to choose whether to abort or not. Many women go for abortion in egocentric as they do not want to take the responsibilities. Many women say that they do not have enough funds to raise the child. The women say that there is no need to have an unwanted child on earth. The doctors also take the oath of doing so.
Abortion reduces crime and is a means of population control. However, the statements lack potential facts of truth as abortion conflicts with the right of life that well known by the United States' founding fathers and has ethnocentrism impacts on the African American children ("Abortion - Pros & Cons - Procon.Org"). Various religious bodies support the reproductive choice of women, while their egocentrism opinion does not factor in the abortion abolishing the ability of contributions to the society of a future human being and may lead to the mother's medical complications in the future. The assumption that abortion cuts the welfare to taxpayers is a contradiction to the fact that human life is valuable.
Conclusion
Conclusively, my inductive argument in this is, I support abortion but for the right reasons. I feel that when the health of the women is in danger, in rape and incest situations, it is necessary to perform the procedure under safe, legal, and professional conditions. Abortion should also be insured.
