Childhood accidents still occur despite having the best safety measures in place. The most common causes of child injuries entail poisonings, burns, falls, scalds and road accidents. As such, they end up getting hurt in different places of their bodies and the injuries may entail a cut or broken bones. The paper will explore some of the accidents incurred during childhood analyze whether they could have been prevented and suggest helpful laws that might be passed.
Some of the broken bones include the knee and the one running from the elbow to the thumb side of the wrist. They occurred at the age of three and four. The broken bones could have been prevented by having a regular examination. Also, early training is necessary to keep the child fit continuously (Willet, 2011). Cuts requiring stitches are the ones on the face, knee, wrist, hand, foot, and fingers. At two years, a cut was obtained on the face, hand, and knee. While four years, there were other cuts on the foot and wrist. The cuts could have been prevented by keeping items such as scissors, forks, and knives in a safe place such as a drawer or cabinet that cannot be retrieved by the child. Mirrors should also be attached to the wall properly (World Health Organization, 2013).
On the other hand, I ingested poisons ranging from topical products like steroid ointment and diaper cream, cleaning substances, cosmetics, and personal care products, pain medications and foreign objects such as a penny. However, some of these could be avoided by ensuring they are not easily accessible. Additionally, some of them were quite hard to avoid since they were used daily in the house and in most cases, the parent forgot to keep it far away from the child. The dislocation that occurred was on the shoulder at the age of five while playing baseball (Hockenberry, Wong, Wilson & Wong, 2013). It could not have been avoided since there was too much play at that time.
Specific vital laws can be passed that will be helpful towards the management and reduction of childhood accidents. One of this can entail the hospital reporting any critical inquiries that happen to a child under the age of five that requires surgery. It may thus be purported that the parent was ignorant. In this way, it may assist parents or guardians to be careful with their children as any acute injuries may result in legal action.
