Narrative

As I sat down at home, I knew a considerable task was staring at me, waiting for me to take a step towards it. I knew I had to accomplish it for the better of my career, with the idea that any success requires hard work. Due to the intense passion and motivation to assist anyone who needs my help, I decided that I had to make a call. I stretched my hand to reach my cellphone to call Peter, the head of a non-government organization that deals with giving moral and material support to the needy.

Individually, I like being around people while also solving their issues that are within my reach. As I talked to Peter, it came into my mind that to deliver and establish a good relationship with the person I am trying to assist. In case the link is not well developed, nothing meaningful will take place. Peter said, 'in some cases, you may find yourself handling a very stubborn or difficult client who is sometimes violent and not easy to handle.' I developed some fears as I knew there was a great battle in front of me. As a result, it came to my understanding that being friendly to my clients was the only way to establish a good relationship. It is essential to present an excellent visual impression because it will be significant in achieving my objective. 'Also understanding the real issue and analyzing it will give excellent results,' Peter added.

In my career path, it came to know that paperwork will be required as an organization was the only way to deliver. Suddenly Peter broke the part I was waiting for the entire period, the challenges I was going to face. The conversation brought some idea that most human beings are resistant to change, and converting a person's mind will need more effort than anyone can predict. Although this was not a surprise, I had to ask the expert on how to solve an issue of the kind. It seemed natural as he said, 'just be strong, focused, and motivated, and you will overcome the challenge.' To me, this was so scared, but at the back of my mind, I knew that the impossible is untried, and I was heading there within a short duration. Understanding the real problem will also be crucial in solving as one deals with clients suffering from different issues. Issues such as domestic violence, parental abuse, and drug abuse were going to be my daily experiences in my career.

The fact that I have been brought up in a society interacting with various groups of people varying in age and size added an extra advantage. So dealing with the different problem will not be new to me. I can recall a day I helped my friend who was going through psychological torture from domestic violence. Having handled such a case, I saw myself as someone who was on the right path. As Peter narrated, that experience was needed; I was so confident that I had that in me based on my past life and my school education am undergoing. I knew very well that experience is needed in almost every career; thus, I had no time to argue rather than to ask for more advice. At this point, I knew I had to ask a question, 'in this career, how do you get resource for daily activities.' Peter paused for a while before saying that there are some organizations such as MidPen Housing that can offer resources to clients who they refer to them.

Along with the discussion, I noticed some new fact that there should be a boundary between the clients and me. Mostly this is a way of avoiding dangers brought by being so close to each other. I came to learn a few things that will assist me in developing my career. I should not be discouraged by clients who are resistance; instead, I should be able to handle the situation. Moreover, experience matters a lot in any career development, and also there are protective techniques to ensure my safety. As I ended the phone call, I had more information about my career, and I was sure I was in the right field.
