Introduction

The nursing field is vast with many transformations relating to data management. Data-to-Wisdom continuum involves the transfer of information to knowledge. In the nursing profession, knowledge is very essential since it helps the nurses in addressing the specific needs of patients in a more practical form. Nurses are expected to be up to date with the right and correct information that informs their next course of action. The nurses are, therefore, expected to deliver their services informed by proper data and information from reliable sources. The nurse expected to provide information based on a practice using four practical processes namely data, information, knowledge, and, wisdom. The purpose of this research paper is to be able to incorporate data into intelligence in a more practical form in the field of professional nursing relating to infant mortality.

One of the main issues affecting the field of nursing today is the deaths of infants and mothers during the delivery process. There have been rising cases of these deaths despite the modern health sector improvement and hospitals built in many areas to cater to these needs; we still experience deaths. These deaths to a large extent are contributed to by lack of sufficient information that would contribute to proper healthcare practices that are likely to secure children's lives. The biggest question has been what the reason is for these deaths despite some plans being put in place to prevent it (Ryan et al., 2016). I have learned that most mothers are adamant about visiting the hospitals or even deliveries due to factors like a culture where some women believe in giving birth at home unaware of the risk it poses to both the mother and the baby (Ronquillo et al., 2016). Other cases are as a result of lack of information regarding hospitals where some fear they are unaffordable. The healthcare reforms such as the introduction of the affordable healthcare Acts are some of the efforts that have been put in place to help the nursing endeavors to curb the rising cases of infant mortality. In this research using the four concepts of data, information, knowledge, and wisdom we try to understand the relationships between these deaths and lack of information about hospitals. (Vottero et al., 2017).In my nursing practice, I have learned that it is crucial for a mother to go through checkups through their pregnancy period. These checkups performed in hospitals which means basic cultural skills are not of so much help during pregnancy. Hospitals are equipped with special machinery and skilled personnel in the form of nurses and doctors to ensure this is a success. I have been into various hospitals specifically in the maternity wing where I discovered mothers experience complications for lack of checkups. Early births are some of the most unpredictable circumstances. In other cases, the baby may be poorly positioned in the womb, and if the condition prolongs without being addressed, both lives of the mother and the infant face significant risk. It is therefore vital to have the information regarding an expectant mother right from when they are two weeks pregnant accompanied by regular checkups. As a nurse I would collect patients information record it, file as well as keep the records in the patient's hospital database while updating it and transforming it into valuable knowledge (Denholm, 2016). I will also establish a campaign in all hospitals that aimed at creating public awareness on the importance of having regular checkups during pregnancy as well as the stress of handling deliveries in hospitals not home. I will also help in establishing a program aimed at making hospitals affordable for expectant mothers since from the research; I found out that most mothers are scared of going to hospitals since they consider them unaffordable (Bruns et al., 2016). As a nursing practitioner, I also aim at talking my colleagues into using their influence to enlighten people whom they interact within the form of patients on the importance of carrying out safe deliveries in hospitals. I would also recommend door to door campaigns in rural areas trying to create awareness on safe delivery (Vottero et al., 2017). Through this information converted into knowledge, I will have at this moment solved the problem of infant and mother's deaths during delivery; hence no pain and losses will be incurred again.

Conclusion

From the discussion above, we see how information can be converted into knowledge and later wisdom to help people and create awareness in solving a phenomenon in the field of nursing hence the significance of Data-to-Wisdom Continuum Analysis. Insufficient info ration has contributed to a lot of issues in the healthcare field and one of them being infant mortality. In many ways, the data-to-wisdom continuum has come in handy to address some of the arising matter that negatively affects the nursing field. In the same way, there are other interns that proper information use and dissemination is one of the most reliable ways of creating a lasting solution to matter pertaining to healthcare, in particular, the infant mortality rates. It is thus, incumbent upon all the players in the nursing field to ensure that they create an atmosphere where the proper dissemination of information is achieved to secure the lives and the health of the children and their mothers.
