Paul has been having a good working relationship with the physicians, that is, Melanie and Peter. However, the physicians have been facing a challenge of appropriately interpreting Paul's report regarding the benefits of seeking and understanding the patients' medical history. Tony Gilliam, is a 35 years old patient, was admitted to the hospital, and he exhibited symptoms such as pain in the abdomen, urinary tract infection, and pale skin color. He has been experiencing these symptoms for a while, and his visits to some of the top hospitals have not yielded a positive result. In all the diagnoses, the physicians have not been seeking any relevant information regarding his condition. Moreover, he has been given different medications that have proved ineffective as his condition keeps on deteriorating. Just like other physicians in the hospitals which Tony has visited, Melanie and Peter did not seek relevant information about the symptoms exhibited by the patient. They conducted numerous tests, but none of them was complete to show the type of the disease Tony is having effectively.

Tony was provided with different medications, but his condition did not improve. He visited the hospital again, looking much emaciated. Paul was within the facility at the time of Tony's visit, and the physicians sought his help in conducting the diagnosis. Paul reviewed his report regarding the patients' medical history, and he sought more information about the patient. He asked Tony about the medical history of other siblings and parents. Tony narrated the medical history of his parents and siblings, and from the information he provided, Paul highly suspected that Tony could be suffering from a genetic disease that is inherited across generations. Also, he realized that Melanie and Peter did not refer to the report regarding the patients' medical history, and this created a communication barrier that impeded the physicians' effort to diagnose the disease accurately. Upon conducting the diagnosis backed with the understanding of the patient's medical history, it was determined that Tony was suffering from polycystic kidney disease that is an inherited kidney disorder.

Case Study Analysis

Communication is an essential aspect of every discipline and, more particularly, in the field of nursing. Physicians are often required to have a proper understanding of the relevant patient's information that can be used to determine the potential ailment of the patient. However, there have communication barriers where the physicians cannot appropriately review the medical reports that can be beneficial to them in their activities within the hospital. Understandably, the case study explores the information gap in the nursing field and how the patients' medical history is instrumental in conducting proper diagnosis for the patients.

The communication problem has occurred where Melanie and Peter, who are the physicians at the Marble Hospital, failed to review the report authored by Paul regarding the patients' medical history and how they help in conducting a diagnosis. Despite knowing the danger posed by misdiagnosis, they conducted in comprehensive diagnosis and provided wrong medications, which made the condition of Tony worse than before. Also, the physicians failed to ask a relevant medical history of Tony's family to determine if the conditions could be genetic.

The possible solutions in this case study would be to properly train the physicians to have a better understanding of the diagnostic processes to ensure that they do not misdiagnose the patients. Melanie and Peter, being working a reputable facility, would have consulted the more experienced doctors at Marble and critically review different such works that have been authored by Paul. Additionally, the physicians could have involved Tony in the diagnostic process by asking the relevant information about his medical history to ensure that the diagnosis is conducted in reference to that history and, most importantly, provide proper medication.

The solution in the case study would develop a program that would impart the physicians and the patients the benefits of working together during diagnostic processes. Moreover, the experienced doctors at the Marble Hospital should regularly guide the physicians in their activities within the facility to ensure that they provide satisfactory services to the patients. Also, to avoid incidences of misdiagnosis that may pose a great danger to the patients, the physicians and the hospital at large should always seek the medical history of the patients as a preliminary before conducting the diagnosis. Additionally, the physicians should work within the dictates of evidence-based research works to guide them in their duties.

The solution mentioned above can be implemented through enforced through involving the Marble Hospital management to ensure that ethical and standards guidelines are crafted that guide the physicians in their activities. Furthermore, the solution can be put into action by creating a good working relationship between the experienced doctors and physicians to ensure that they work closely work together in providing excellent medication to the patients. Also, the research works should be made simpler to enable the physicians to properly interpret the contents which can be used to improve healthcare provision at the facility.
