Introduction
Ideally, babies like new things which contribute significantly to their learning process. Moreover, new objects assist infants in developing a sound knowledge of their environment. Notably, infants are not only growing physically in their first two years of life but also mentally (Cognitively). Every time the babies interact with objects and learn about their surroundings, new pathways and connections are created and developed between the nerve cells both within the brain and the rest of their body parts. While physical growth and changes are mostly observable in such terms, including pounds and inches, cognitive development and associated changes are a bit complex to determine. Therefore, just like the article notes, it takes more than just a novelty for babies to learn how the world operates, and situations that go against their assumptions form the foundation of their development (Alice, 2015). Moreover, more concerning experts' knowledge of cognitive development will depend on careful observation and analysis of multiple development theories, including Piaget's cognitive development theory and Erickson's psychosocial theory.
Possible Implications to the Field of Life Span Psychology
The article is significant to the field of lifespan psychology since the new tricks in helping babies grow faster is connected to the growth of the brain. Brains develop over time as children continue to interact with a new thing in the environment, and thus every experience affects not only their growth but also development. The future personalities of children or who they become has all to do with interactions and experiences in their early life. Children get experience under the care of their parents and even outside their families. This interaction and association help the child grow mentally over time.
It is worth noting that cognitive development is enhanced when the infants are emotionally healthy, secure, and socially connected through their family ties. Therefore, the parent and guardians should ensure that they provide a conducive environment that accelerates children cognitive growth, including promoting healthy habits, responding promptly to their cues, and addressing their needs including buying for them new, unique and unusual things, and lastly fostering relationship between them and their environment. Notably, children who are subjected to inappropriate or inadequate experiences carry out the experiences throughout their lives; hence early experience on a child lasts for a lifetime. While parents help children in such activities as washing their hands, helping them play with their toys, cleaning up split milk, and performing other routine task, a child's cognitive development is being influenced in the process.
Development Concepts
The article has incorporated such development concepts, including cognitive, social and emotional, speech, fine motor skill, and gross motor skill development concepts. Cognitive development helps a child how to learn. For instance, with time, babies learn that objects are solid, and other things cannot pass through them (Alice, 2015). Social and emotional development is responsible for how the children interact with their environment and others. The article has extensively explored multiple experiments on the interaction of babies with different balls. Speech and language development involve the ability of a child to understand and use language. According to the experiment of Stahl on the different behavior of the balls, it is like the children are seeking an explanation of the surprising event they have witnessed (Alice, 2015).Though there is no direct language used, some inferences can be noticed. Motor and Gross motor skill development is the ability of a child to move the object. The children were capable of moving multiple balls of different types and they dropped the object that defied gravity.
