Introduction
The social essence of sports in high school is a contemporary issue that has been discussed in social science, and various theories have been used to attest to the matter. Sports in high school also add up as a learning tool that builds up the cognitive resonance and their ability besides the knowledge they acquire in books. Sports has significance in students in school, the science that entails it lies in the theoretical frameworks that will build up the course of this essay. The essay will thus focus on structural theory as social theory in the understanding of sports in high school.
Structural Theory
The approach perceives the society to exist in a complex form, but an interconnection of systems, in which every single unit in it takes a role in the functionality of the whole. A common example is the structure of the human body; every single part of the human body contains their neurons and systems that aid in its performance (Coakley, & Pike, 2014). It is the primary theoretical understanding of the structural theory that every part has to perform its task for the general outcome and functionality of the whole system.
Sports in high school also takes a similar channel, because, for any team in the school, there has to be a branch of operating parts, each of the parts functioning at their own for the success of the whole team. Say, for instance, sports like football; there will be various positions for the team, which include the fullbacks, forwards, and the goalkeeper. At the same time, there has to be a couch and the referees. The sport also would require an audience because, without them, it would not be any fun. You see, in this alignment of the various parts that make up soccer as a sport complete, the structural theory takes course because every part and structure that is to be involved in the sports works towards the wholeness of the game. It is the sociology and presentation of structural theory. The theory in sports helps students who play soccer to adapt to being dependant on the other and putting in the work independently to ensure that the success of the team is achieved (Jay Coakley 2015). Structural theory nurtures hard work and teamwork and individual excellence between students because each one of them in the sorts works towards ensuring that their team succeeds. For the system or the team to perform and standout to be exemplary, every individual has to work together in a structural form to ensure the larger outcome of the team is great.
Method
The road to take towards the collection of research data and information is through the application of the qualitative method. Qualitative involves the sampling of unstructured data through avenues such as interviews, surveys and the use of questionnaires. With interviews, the team can have a session with the soccer captains, and some of the players inquiring about the performance of their team and how working together independently lead to the success of the whole team. Questionnaires are a good source of qualitative data because the team gets to structures questions relating to the research topic and the intended sample response which in this case are the high school soccer team and the school management to see how structural theory effectively works for the betterment of the school and the sports in particular. Surveys also play a great deal in the analysis and collection of relevant information relating to the topic in question.
Question
How does structural theory influence social existence and success in high school sports?
