Asthma has been listed among the most chronic diseases that affect most of the children. The article shows how in 2010, in the United States, approximately 7 million children had been diagnosed with asthma. According to the study, it has been found that asthma affects disproportionately children who are of ethnic/racial minorities. This is due to limited access to health care, levels of education, health insurance coverage, socioeconomic status, and utilization. The trends in the prevalence of asthma also vary by geography and gender. Further, the study indicates that Hispanic and African children were the majority of users of the emergency department as their source of primary care for asthma (Laurens et al., 2015). This paper will evaluate the professional role of a nurse in the promotion of health care activities.

A nurse must handle asthmatic patients with the care that they demand. Some patients might be in a clinical condition. According to the article, health disparities in pediatric asthma, it was discovered that the Hispanic, unlike African children, are the least affected by asthma. Regarding this article, a nurse is, therefore, expected to do a lot to promote the health condition of the children in those races with an objective of improving their health (Laurens et al., 2015). This can be achieved by advocating for better delivery of the medical services to them to ensure that they have access to Medicare, medical camps in such areas where there is a high Asthma prevalence.

Prevention of illness can be achieved by formulating measures that will ensure the prevalence of a medical condition is prevented or put under control. According to the article, a survey of asthma prevalence in the Hispanic children is low compared to the other groups. Regarding those findings, the nurse must advocate for serious attention to be directed to the groups that show a higher percentage of asthma prevalence (Laurens et al., 2015). With proper measures and medical care directed toward asthmatic Hispanic children, their number can be lowered as well as improving their health status. Compared to my health promotion project, some of the prevention measures that can be used is setting up of medical centers close to where the profoundly affected groups live so that they can access medical care easily.

Health maintenance should follow illness prevention. After a nurse attends to children with asthmatic conditions, they must ensure that their health is maintained by advising the children together with their guardian on the best practices that can put the situation under control. The Hispanic children have Medicaid, but this does not mean they are not prone to the factors that lead to asthma (Laurens et al., 2015). They still need the attention of a nurse regularly to maintain their health conditions. Health insurance helps to restore and rehabilitate most of the health conditions that people develop. A nurse should educate and advise parents to medical insurance coverage for their children to keep them safe from health risks. Health insurance has been among the significant factors that have led to a lower number of Hispanic children with asthmatic conditions in the United States.

Conclusion

The purpose of this article is to show that improving the health condition of a group of people is not an easy task for a nurse. Similar to the Healthy people 2020, both are trying to identify the health challenges in societies and come up with solutions by shifting the agenda of treating diseases to preventing them. Therefore, the strategies used is to advocate for the formation of an organization that will sensitize people on better living habits that will not expose them to health risks as well as approaching the authorities to set up medical centers in places with a high number of children with asthma. Research should also be conducted to develop better methods to handle asthma because every day new symptoms develop in someone's life and so to maintain the standards throughout the patient's lifespan, it is vital always to check the progress and health status of patients.
