Introduction
Rigorous analysis and evaluation of Aysel Ozdemir's article on Adolescent Obesity successfully demonstrate that obesity or overweight is prevalent in children aged between 2-9 years (Ozdemir, 2015). This article conclusively proves that the condition is the current chronic disease and that there is a high likelihood for an overweight adolescent child to retain the status to adulthood (Ozdemir). He defines obesity as having more than enough body fat owing to high accumulation of adipose tissue concerning the imbalance intake and expenditure of energy. Adolescent obesity, therefore, remains a world pandemic and a condition of high prevalence (Ozdemir, 2015)
Discussion
Typically, most parents ignore the nutritional contents that their children consume. That, and environmental factors that surround their children that may be a direct relation to future obesity (Ozdemir, 2015). I found the article Adolescent Obesity very informative and of interest. I attempt to concur with his approach to the stated issue. For one, I would wish to acknowledge the fact it informs the societal and family realm on some of the causes of obesity among adolescents (Ozdemir, 2015)
Key Points in the Article Adolescent Obesity
According to the National Health and Examination Surveys, (N.H.A.N.E.S.), most pediatrics age groups have an increased prevalence of being obese or overweight (Ozdemir, 2015). The article further adds that in the U.S., for instance, there is a rapid prevalence of overweight increase among kids and adolescents between the ages of 2 and 18 (Ozdemir, 2015). Other vital points in this article include; family monthly income, more salt intake, and spending more time on the computer (Ozdemir, 2015). The report also suggests that nutrition is directly associated with adolescent obesity. Cases like skipping breakfast, which he says that increases body mass index in comparison to other factors (Ozdemir, 2015). The result of the above leads to higher consumption of fast foods and snacks. The article also describes that environmental factors also play a crucial role in adolescent obesity. That is in the view that fast-food restaurants proximity near schools may lead to bad eating habits, thus resulting in overweight.
Implications of the Article to the Community, Client and their Family
From the approach of Ozdemir, it is very evident that the item has numerous information of much implication not only to the city, the client but also to the client's family. He mentions the side effects of obesity among adolescents client like new diabetic cases, several coronary heart diseases, severe cases of hypertension, orthopedic complications, blood pressure levels, advanced cases of arthritis, asthma and numerous new cases of cancer-related obesity. The article adds that health care costs for obesity-related diseases are likely to rise higher shortly. All these obese related diseases coupled with the high cost of treatment will be of adverse effect not only to the client's family families but also to the community at large (Martha, Hawkins, Edwards, 2015).
The article explains obese psychological complications to the client like loneliness, sadness anxiety, and withdrawal from the society, less self-confidence owing to their body shape perception among others. Ozdemir adds that the victims sometimes succumb to depression, especially the female adolescents as their peers tease them. That subsequently makes them opt to smoke, drinking besides succumbing to eating disorders, and this causes more harm than good to the client. Over the years, there have been limited resources for the treatment of childhood obesity, and at times, obese pediatric patients are not able to access services (Martha et al., 2015). That is because obese children have a more significant healthcare expenditure on resources as compared to the standard weight or underweight groups of children. The article explains that obesity in children will cost individuals, families, and the commonwealth. Loss of human productivity, resources, and stagnated status of heal would be also likely to be experienced.
Nursing Resolution
The nursing profession can be of service to this issue by discussing it with the caregivers to assess their knowledge of the consequences of adolescent obesity. They should also identify the caregiver's view on children's nutritional status via the qualifiers perspective. The nurses, too, when serving the patients should spend time with their patients. That could be by answering their questions, listening to their fears, guiding them in terms of healthy and affordable foods that they should consume. The nurses should also encourage the patient and the entire family to incorporate physical exercises as a routine. Moreover, professional nurses should work together in nurseries to prevent early nutritional disorders by providing parents of vulnerable children with health education (Souza, Nogueura, Sondre, 2015). The training should involve effective breastfeeding and on how to avoid nutritional status that may accelerate dietary disorders.
Conclusion
Adolescent obesity has become a significant health hazard worldwide and is likely to increase unless appropriate preventive measures are enacted. There are various treatment measures though they are majorly surgical and pharmacological. These methods may not be of advantage to the adolescent owing to the side effects (Souza et al., 2015). Since it is a global health burden, the government should ensure that appropriate measures are put in place to help prevent and treat it. That would subsequently provide decrease obesity rates and aid towards achieving a downward prevalence
