Introduction
Because of the dynamics taking place in the healthcare sector, role development in advanced practice nurse has also developed. It has transformed personal and professional as well as professional identity. Leaders must devise ways of reducing the cost of operations in the sector while maximizing the output (Schober, 2016). I have talked to an APRN (Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner/Registered nurse) when she first started as a APRN, it was very overwhelming for her, she is working in a GI clinic, but after a couple of months about 6 months she gained her confident on what she doing and she was able to write orders for tests and prescribing medicines appropriately. Now it is one year, she can assist Doctors in the procedure room in placing the G Tube (Gastrostomy tube) and several other G I cases.
Professional Background
Having completed high school, I enrolled for a diploma LPN certificate. I passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses. I completed additional training for professional certification after which I entered the workforce. Professionally, I have worked as Licensed Practitioner Nurse for two years. I have been providing medical and nursing services, such as checking blood pressure, discuss healthcare needs with patients and ensure their comfort. Other areas gained experience include nursing care, patient management and advocating for patient information. Because of the challenges encountered in professional practice, I chose to develop my career in the area of Family Nurse Practitioner.
Personal and Professional Goals
Goals for attaining competencies in graduate school include embracing motivational leadership to facilitate positive change, apply best and contemporary research findings in the clinical practice and translating new knowledge into practice. Professional practice goals include; applying creative skills to solve problems in the Family Nurse Practitioner, establishing professional relationships and application of appropriate communication technologies. Ways of achieving these goals include taking new and challenging roles and collaborating with other professionals in the healthcare sector (Hinchliff & Rogers, 2008). The third strategy is researching and practicing how to use available technology to enhance communication.
Empirical Application of the Role Concept
Selected role concepts include role stress, role strain, and role stressors. I anticipated encountering these roles concepts in graduate school because of varying conflicts between school, jobs, and family. The time is limited to balance these responsibilities. In the first semester of graduate school, anxiety could affect performance, leading to low self-esteem. Balancing family financial expectations and graduate school demands could be some of the stressors. The cost of graduate school high; hence, the concept is expected (Brykczynski, 2001). Strategies to manage these role concepts include working part-time, learning to remain positive and learning from mentors how to manage role stressors. Also, I will budget for financial resources to avoid frustration.
Vision statement: To develop healthcare services through research to meet the changing needs of healthcare users.
Conclusion
The nursing role is changing with emerging trends. Healthcare professionals should develop their skills to offer solutions to the ever-changing healthcare demands. Anticipated concepts in the graduate program include role stress, role strain, and role stressors. Through effective planning and budgeting, it is possible to manage these issues.
