Introduction
I value human life. I view human life as the most important and sacred thing. I believe that all human beings regardless of religion, skin color, tribe, financial status, and sexual preferences are all remarkable. I also believe in helping any person who is in need be it financially, emotionally or health-wise. Life is a one-time experience, and that's why we should strive to live it for the help of us and others. It is the only chance we have. We should live life with ease and full of happiness. I believe that whatever is in the world is enough for all human being to survive, only that some people take so much for themselves. Life is short, and I firmly believe that we should spend it living happily with each other. I think that happiness obtained through the suffering of others is not happiness. Life is complicated and difficult to understand. Every day poses a whole new different experience. We have so much to learn in this life that even in four or five lives if that was possible, we can never get a full knowledge of what life is all about. Someone living in the palace will never understand or even experience the side of the life of a person living in the streets due to homelessness. We always strive to get the best of what we will get in this one life. Therefore, we must interact with people from different walks of life to learn and understand how privileged we are, and learn to appreciate the good things that we have.
I believe in the existence of a supreme being responsible for everything that happens in this world. Even though I do not follow any religion, I do have confidence in the presence of a supreme being that all human beings are answerable. I love reading religious books. One particular book that I've been reading is on Buddhism. I love and believe in Buddhism ideas on life. It tends to incline with my belief about life that each person has their calling. When a child is born, he is blameless and with a pure soul, and depends on the living members be it the parents, family, and the society, in general, to guide him in discovering his purpose of life. Everybody has their meaning for being. The community and life experience guide us in achieving these purposes. I am glad I know my goal in this life. I am privileged enough to discover my objective at a young age. I don't understand why it had to happen through a painful experience.
Ever since at the age of 10, I knew that I was supposed to be a doctor. Even though not a qualified medical doctor, but be in the field of medicine helping people who need help the most. At the age of nine, my sister and I were on a greasy road accident. I hospitalized for eight months, five months of being unconscious in the ICU. I had terrible injuries on both legs. Most of the doctors thought that I would never walk again. However, after seven months of stay in the hospital, I started showing signs of walking another time. I must say that the rest in the hospital changed the way I viewed life.
I was taking everything for granted. I never knew the importance of my legs until this happened. At this point, I learned the value of life. I was in the children's ward, which was adjacent to the department which holds patients in critical conditions. I guess it was strategically located here because kids wouldn't realize that those people taken out in body bags were already dead. At the age of eleven, I knew what was going on. I was so afraid every time I heard that trolley carrying recent dead people out. All I wanted was to recover quickly and get out of this horrible place that kept on tormenting my body and soul. I had never been in the hospital for such long.
Everybody is unique in their ways. We have different strengths and weakness. The privileges that we have as human beings helps in shaping us and defines our every action to a situation. I must say that I am very privileged to be physically and health-wise fit. Compared to a homeless person, I have never gone through the pain of sleeping out in the cold. I have both legs, I can see well, I have no difficulties in hearing or talking. All these are the privileges that many people do not have. With all these capabilities, I can do so much. Unlike many people who are homeless, I have a home and live a better life compared to them. Financially, I am well up and have no problem getting what I need. I can imagine what people go through in their financial life. People are suffering in Africa for lack of food, yet I have more than what I need. People in Africa enjoy sunshine throughout the year, yet other parts of the world have freezing winters. The world is in such a way that everybody has something they are privileged to have.
Financially stability seems to be the only way one can get the most out of this life. Without money, people tend to be vulnerable. The homeless are unfortunate and suffer from extreme weather conditions, health-related issues, and hostility from other people. Surprisingly, these people are protected by the Supreme Being more than us. I can remember when I was in the hospital, it was hard getting all the medical care due to financial reasons. Earlier on, I couldn't understand why people used to request for financial support to fund their medical needs. We only understand the situations that are around us. I sometimes believe that it is good to go out and experience the life others go through.
People judge others based on their skin colors, health status, and financial status. I have seen people stigmatized because they are terminally ill. I have suffered stigmatization, and at some point in my life, other kids used to bully me. My father was serving in the military. He was working in the bomb department. He suffered throat cancer caused as a result of the burn pits. It happened in the early 1990s. He was skinny, and as a result, he was usually confused with a person living with HIV/AIDs. During those days, stigmatization was very high. I do believe that all these happened to me to prepare me to what life is all about. I started learning how to give care to a sick person at a very early stage.
I have been striving to understand my life for a very long time now. Though strange, I have found myself going to the cemetery to understand some things about life. These people were once living, but they are no more. So much happens that I cannot explain. I cannot tell why I am still living. Many people are of the same age as I am who died a long time ago. I don't understand why I am still living. I believe in the existence of a supreme being, but I don't know why some people would suffer, and others have whatever they want with so much ease. I also believe in fairness in the world, but I don't understand why acts of unfairness are given so much importance in the recent days that people who act unfairly are the ones who prosper. I believe in honest and legal means of getting what I want. However, illegal and dishonest means seem to be more effective nowadays for one to make it in life. I am tempted to drop my own beliefs in pursuit of financial greatness.
I chose to dedicate my life for the help of others. I believe that's a great way to live. I started by a simple blood donation, then into the Red Cross to help in times of emergencies, and right now I am into charities. All my life experience has always prepared me for this. From the time I was taking care of my dad, through the time that I was in the hospital, all of that has been a preparation for me to the greater good, which is probably become a doctor and take care of the sick. I may not necessarily be a practicing doctor, or even be in the medical career, but during my free time, I always find time to attend hospitals and volunteer. I have also joined the Red Cross group where I do offer volunteer services. The world is not uniform. All we need as a human being is spread all over the world, with some having excess of what they need, others have less than what they need, while still at other places people have something they don't need, yet very important to other people. For social justice to prevail in the world, I believe there's need for parts of the world to interconnect. The internet is just one way that has made that possible.
Most of the poverty situation in the world is the result of unequal distribution of resources. I believe that with the allocation of resources and technology across the globe, we will overcome the poverty we experience today. Global health is an important aspect. Technological advancement has made it possible to overcome HIV/AIDs which for several years has been the greatest threat to humanity. The primary danger the world is facing right now is cancer. I believe that with distribution of cancer care centers to the developing nations would assist in the war against cancer. Peace is the most crucial part of human survival. To have peace in the world, fairness, and equality is the number one priority.
Therefore, I believe that human beings, unlike other creatures, are endowed with the ability to think, reason, and act consciously. We need to strive to help one another so that we exist peaceful with each other. The whole world would mean nothing if all the people were no there. Our happiness lies in each other, and that's why I believe we should always work hard and focus more on helping others. Forms of structural violence and discrimination are the root cause of evils that are experienced in the world right now. People need to live their life freely provided they don't endanger the lives of others.
