Introduction
The year 2020 could have been termed as a typical year with normal day to day activities until the onset of the Corona Virus. On 31st December, Wuhan Municipal Health Commission, China, gave news on a series of pneumonia cases in Wuhan, Hubei Province. At this point, it had no adverse effects. Still, it had gotten established that it was a new string of coronavirus ( Zhu et al., 2020)The cases intensified by 5th January 2020 and by 10th January worldwide got news about the virus. At this point, life was still as usual, but by the end of that month, there were up to 7818 confirmed cases worldwide. Seven thousand seven hundred thirty-six cases were in China, and the rest 82 cases were from in 18 different countries outside China. Meanwhile, everything got done to combat the illness.
On 21st January the first case was now reported in the United States, and after one month a case of local transmission was identified. At this point, China was in lockdown due to the increase in deaths. There was no yet cause for alarm in the United States. The first man succumbed to this virus two days after this report. That was in Washington State. From there, it went uphill. There was death after death. On 13th March it was declared a national emergency by the president. In fourteen days, the disease had spread to fifty different states. The main people affected were those at the city centres. By the end of March, the United States reported 82,000 positive and up to a thousand dead. By then, it was alarming. As of April, many hot spot states were put on lockdown to prevent the spread of the disease.
When the disease started, I was personally still attending school. When the situation got worse, my life as I know it came to a standstill. Every social gathering got cancelled. This meant that school hours got reduced to zero at this point. Most of my family members came back home. The good thing is that no one in my family provided essential services; hence there was no need for anyone to go out of the house regularly. As a family, we stacked up on food that was going to last us a while. High-security measures got put in place; hence the furthest I could go to was the most distant area in our house.
With time the virus led to change in how we played, worked and learnt. We, the students, started attending classes online so that we could catch up on the curriculum. The working generation in our family and relatives accomplished most of its work goals online. Sports as we know it got banned. At this time there were no matches of any kind of game. If we were not attending a class, we got to either watch movies and tackled various house chores activities around the house. The excellent outcome about this one my end was the fact that we got to be together as a family. With nothing to get to my family members have been a lot of fun to be with.
The downside to this pandemic gets to be what happens immediately its' over. During my average school days, I juggled between school and worked to ensure the next semester fees got paid. With this closure, funds from my paid part-time job have not been streaming in. This implies that once the next semester comes up, I may not be able to join in on time. Another sad fact is that we got to employ a doctor who is on call, given my sibling's state of health. This situation is straining the family's resources as at now. We got the doctor on call to attend to them in case of an emergency. This prevents us from having to go to the hospital and risk getting affected personally. Who knew a family doctor cost that much? I derive my joy in knowing that we are all fine despite the virus outbreak.
Aside from me, I have friends that owned a business before this menace. The lockdown ordered that every restaurant get shut down. This was their only source of income for the whole family. While having conversations with them on the phone they seem devasted and are preparing for the worst come the end of lockdown. The good thing is that their landlord understands where their situation and has heart enough not to trouble them some more during this situation. Currently, he has taken it upon himself to waver their rent bill. As at that, their only worry is how they will get the next meal. I know of one friend of mine that took to online jobs that will help her a little money each day. Others are using their God-given talents to earn something online. These creative platforms include; drawing both pencil sketches and computer drawings, painting and acting short skits for social media.
With this in mind, I got a few ideas I could get to offer as suggestions to the field of Health Care regarding pandemics. The health care systems in the country should establish their leading spokespersons for circulating information to the public before the onset of an epidemic (Yozwiak et al., 2015). The person chosen should have the ability to give dependable and balanced messages. Each health care providing unit should have the capacity to hold a large number of patients in case of a pandemic. Each health care providing unit, for example, hospitals should have a strong task force. They should avoid having people in the task force that have the behaviour of career absenteeism. This will assure the management has every hand gets to be on deck to combat the epidemic.
Moreover, many more health care systems should have in place a research centre where innovations could get carried out. The health care systems should also have a system in place that moderates the acquisition and circulation of resources required urgently by the professionals during an epidemic. Before this time, each hospital should also consider stocking a broad spectrum of antiviral drugs. Besides each hospital should have its plan to account for times of a pandemic. Looking at previous epidemics across the world should educate the health care systems on how to plan for future pandemics. All health care systems should consider having a unit that is designed explicitly for quarantine. This gets to help in times of an epidemic to isolate patients that get contaminated from the uncontaminated ones. It helps prevent the spread of the disease. Also, this will enable people with other illnesses to be able to access hospitals during the pandemic period without the fear of getting affected.
Also, from my above sentiments on how the pandemic affected my studies, I got a few suggestions on what the universities could do regarding epidemics. A university is an institution of higher learning; thus should be able to have research centres. Incorporation of research centres will enable the researchers to come up with vaccines and even drugs that combat different types of pandemic strains. They should teach students and put more emphasis on drug and vaccine development (Kanamori et al., 2016). Also, universities should have a working online platform that facilitates online homeschooling in case the university has to close indefinitely during a pandemic. The platform should be readily available and accessible to people of all kinds of backgrounds.
The universities should continue paying the professors that they may feel motivated to keep teaching online. Other university employees should also get paid. This will prevent economic and social inequality. It will get to account for the wellness of their employees as they will not opt to go out to look for other jobs to cater for their basic needs. The university management should come up with a way of ensuring every professor pursues virtual teaching. This will make them accountable during the pandemic season, and delivery of the education will be efficient.
Most importantly, the national, the state, the local government should also get prepared for any sort of epidemic. Measures they can put in place include; setting aside resources that for deploration in times of pandemics. They could come up with continuity policies set to get actualized during a pandemic. Prior planning for the possible impact on businesses, education, essential services, educational institutions, and other public and private organizations could get considered. Development of capacity for response to pandemics is valid too. This will prevent the rate of people who succumb to deaths following a given pandemic.
Other helpful measures include; developing strategies to contain an initial emergence of a pandemic rapidly. As soon as the World Health Organization declares a disease as a pandemic, other countries should already be developing strategies to contain it if it occurs in their country. The state should be able to curb it from spreading such that it doesn't lead to deaths or even future constraints on the economy. The government should establish the right channels that will be supplying any information on the pandemic to the public. There should be strict rules and guidelines for this to be adhered to. This will prevent cause for panic, and the citizens will know what to do at every stage of the pandemic. The government should also set aside enough funds to ensure that after every epidemic, the students should be able to continue accessing their education. Apart from that, they should have the capacity to withdraw their student citizens from other countries on the onset of pandemics. This is to prevent them from being mistreated in other countries.
In conclusion, the pandemic and I is a paper that details down a few aspects of the epidemic. It describes how the pandemic started and came to be what it is right now. It follows a detailed explanation of how the pandemic has affected me as an individual and then followed by suggestions on how to prepare for future epidemics. These suggestions got based on different sectors; the health care system, the universities, the state and the local government. The principal suggested measure each area should partake is planning. Could be it is planning to house more patients, planning to acquire the required resources, planning to rapidly arrest the disease spread or planning to ensure that the essential activities go on during the pandemic period.
Social Health Care Interview
My team of interviewees able to spare a minute was a group consisting of three health care professionals. The company chosen was a large well-known company. The team consisted of a charge nurse, a monitor technician, and a lab technician. The organization is a non-profit organization that in charge of hospital facilities in its surrounding and a hospital system. From its outlook, the staff is from a different demographic background, but they work together towards achieving the company's goal. As of now, they have a total of twenty thousand nine hundred and fourteen employees.
Below I will dive into some of the questions asked and the responses given on the same. When asked to describe the organizations' culture, they said that the employees are a group of diverse people who appreciate a positive work environment. This work environment included competent, supportive and cooperative care. Also, they went ahead to inform me that the organization cared enough to have flexible scheduling. The shared values upheld by the institution were teamwork, justice integrity, and compassion.
I also inquired about what the company stood for. The information was that their mission was to serve every individual with the greatest love and care in a community. The population served got described as one that celebrates the gift of life each day. On the question of how the company came to where it was right now, they delivered a beautiful and exciting history (Kurtz, Draper, & Silverman, 2017). With every failure and every lesson learned, they grew bigger and better. With every new employee, they sort to improve each ot...
