Introduction
Upon review of the job market in the healthcare industry where healthcare administrators work, one discovers that there are universal qualities that employers seek before considering candidates for open positions. The most common requirement for a job at most healthcare institutions is the experience of the potential administrator. The majority of the employers require at least a two year minimum of experience for most of the open administrative positions they are advertising. For example, from a job advertisement by Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego, an open managerial position as the Director, Developmental Services Behavioral Health Programs, has a minimum requirement of 5year's experience in a healthcare institution of relevant stature to the institution (Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego, 2020). Moreover, the advert also highlights another specification that most employers look for: a certified Master's Degree in Health Administration.
In this context, I have learned the necessary skills required of a manager. Upon completion of all the modules and courses as are required for this master's degree, I will have achieved one qualification for such a position. Additionally, classes have also helped me understand the need to apply for entry administration jobs. Thus, I would not waste my energy on applying for such a job since I lack the experience working in the healthcare sector yet. Nonetheless, most entry level job descriptions only require one's degree and knowledge and skills in the fields of HRM, financial planning as regulatory guidelines, all of which I have gained from my years studying for the master's degree. The internships between the years of study will also boost my resume in this regard since I will possess theoretical as well as hands-on experience to qualify for such jobs.
Degree Plan Review
Generally, a Health Administration Master's Degree is often the result of weeks of studies in theory and practice across modules and courses of different disciplines. For example, the skills and knowledge in module HA575 equipped me with the ability to develop comprehensive marketing plans that can be applied during the performance of any administrative job that may require marketing within the healthcare sector. During the course, one learns a lot about planning, strategy development, as well as marketing from a healthcare perspective. I also acquired knowledge and skills from HA535, which focuses on research methodology. Therefore, I believe the quantitative, as well as qualitative analysis skills I learned from the module, will enable me to conduct research and publish reports for any studies I may be required to undertake upon securing employment. Regardless of possessing these qualities, I also have the requisite evidence of these skills on-call within the results on my transcripts to help me communicate the mastery of the same to potential employers. Also, if need be, I would prepare presentations to elaborate on my understanding and skills whenever I attend job interviews.
Career Network Profile Review
Thus far, I have earned 80 points through my career networking efforts. I have as well been able to complete a psychological self-assessment test that has enabled me to learn and confirm a lot about myself. For this context, I used the Sample Myers-Briggs personality index. According to the Jung Typology Test, I qualify as an ENFJ, which means I possess an extroverted, intuitive, feeling, and judging personality (Hobson et al., 2019). Such a character, per the test, is often shared among people involved in social services, social work, health, and medicine fields, thus cementing my suitability as a health administrator in healthcare (Donelan, 2016). Irrefutably, I agree with the test and even agree with the career suggestions it offers me; after all, I am pursuing a career in one of the disciplines it recommends. Also, one must increase their professional presence by joining professional groups and creating profiles in professional social networks, for example, LinkedIn. All the same, presence is other social media that will also improve one's appearance, especially if one limits the topics in these platforms to their fields of expertise (Donelan, 2016).
Conclusively, networking and profile creation is an essential aspect of one's career development. The same is especially true for individuals pursuing a higher degree like discussed above. Therefore, being able to understand the relevance of the courses and modules one studies as well as familiarizing oneself with the requirements of the employment industry increases the person's chances of success in any industry. A networking profile, thus, is an essential facet of career progression.
