The gender war is as old as mankind. Women have come a long way in reclaiming their rightful position in society. For far too long, there has been a conspiracy in the society to frustrate women. The chauvinism and patriarchy have subjugated women for quite too long much as a lot of steps have been made to elevate the status of women. Laws have been passed to ensure women are empowered and treated with dignity. Laws were passed and still are, but there merely remain as parchments. In the world over women still, have to grapple with issues that are inflicted on them as a result of their biological make-up. The modern woman has to maintain a very delicate balance between work, family, dignity, and perception (Kiser 610). In an interview dabbed 'You are in a World Where the Rules Are Made by Men by Healthyish Team. John Besh, Yung Pam, Camille Beccera and Gabriela Camara provide an insight into this touchy issue. Three chefs and owners from restaurants were interviewed. This insightful interview lasted for close for an hour. The team shared their experiences and tribulations in the restaurants that are male dominated. They went ahead to fault women for not being able to stand up for each other. The team went ahead to recommend ways forward to help change the situation.

The first question was the take of Gabriela and Camille on Besh story. Camille, in particular, was unlighted that many women were increasingly coming out to speak against the mistreatments and humiliations that they undergo in their line of duty as chefs. She regretted that many female chefs working in the male dominated restaurants had to suffer albeit for far too long without coming out to speak about it. This change of attitude and perception was viewed by Camille a right step towards the rest direction. Gabriela Camara did not hold any contrary opinion. She, like her counterpart, felt elated by the change of perception on the problems female chefs go through. She alluded the previous silence on such Trump effect.

Tremendous gains have been made in regards to the plight of women. Becerra and Yung noted remarkable improvements that have occurred in the restaurants over the years. The restaurant had been an all-male area. According to Becerra, A whole sweep of change has taken over. More women are taking leading roles in the kitchen. However, she noted that there were still other restaurants that do not present a nurturing environment for females.

On challenges that still face women at workplace, Becerra confirmed that the society had not done enough to rescue women on the sexual and emotional harassments they encounter at workplace and walk-ins. She gave poignant incidences on her own experience at the hands of chauvinistic male restaurant chef-owners and hell-bent males in walk-ins. According to Becerra, the most shocking thing was that most of these men were married. Am Yung faulted men for being too ego-centric and not able to swallow their pride and take instructions from females. Much more, she noted that men were slow that to compliment females who out-maneuvered them. Yung noted too that some dudes were uneasy to have their meals prepared by females. Yung noted that for a starting female chef, one is viewed as a soft target by the lustful males. Role models turn against those who look up to them to help them nurture their talents. She recounts how she found it hard to overcome. The naivety of a female chef is exploited by the male workmates. As a matter of fact, Yung pointed out brevity, courage and steadfast that makes one thrive in such an environment.

Women have made great steps in fighting the discrimination at workplace. Gabriele was of the view that San Francisco has tremendously changed. Even though the manly atmosphere is still retained, the general attitude has changed. Developing a business idea is even tough for women. In the interview, Beccera narrates how she had to contend with bully landlords and unsatisfied customers. According to Beccera, these unhealthy business practices tend to scare women away from investing in the restaurant business. Yung raised the same concerns.

Reasons for the persistence of these tribulations on women is blamed on the silence on the part of women. According to the trio; Yung, Gabriele, and Beccera, women have been their greatest enemies. Women have remained silent in the wake of devastating harassment. In their view, women fear viewed as troublemakers. As for this reason, women fear to blow the whistle on their predicaments in the hands of men even if it not fashionable to do so (590).

Conclusion

This gender imbalance should be addressed. It cannot remain unattended. Women must not look too far for a change. Yung and Beccra pointed out the role of women in earning their place and dignity. According to Yung, when women come up and speak openly about these ills, then their predicament would remain a thing of the past. Restaurants owners need to come up with policies that guide the interaction of male and females. Beccera suggested that men should not be left out in an attempt to find a permanent solution. These problems are created by men. .A discussion that involves all restaurants workers on healthy practices and behaviours was recommened by Yung. This feeling that female employees are not good at their work as their male counterparts must change. Above all, there should be policies to stamp out harassment of based on sexual make up, demeaning sexual gestures, and request for sexual kick-backs from the restaurant owners. Yung and Beccera acknowledged the acceptance of simple teasing and offhand comments, but they pointed out severe and offensive work environment that at times end in demotion and suspension.
