Agreement With My Colleague's Opinion
The author provided an excellent introduction of why water quality, especially access to clean, is an essential part of the Sustainable Development Goals of 2030. I would have added the importance of ensuring that clean water is accessible to all the citizens in the developing world. Several benefits of clean water have been noted in the literature. According to the World Economic Forum (2018), the supply of clean water for all is necessary in the eradication of 80% of the illnesses, linked to lack of access to clean water and sanitation, found in the developing world. Some of the diseases include cholera (Taylor, Kahawita, Cairncross, & Ensink, 2015; Sigudu, Tint, & Archer, 2015) and diarrhoea (Cha et al., 2015; Pink, 2016; Darvesh et al., 2017).
Validation of My Colleague's Idea
It is also worth noting that the author discussed ways in which the problem of lack of access to clean water could be addressed through a private-public partnership (PPP) water management program. In addition to the benefits of private-public partnership in the provision of clean water, I would like to add that PPPs are one of the most vital mechanisms that can help the government in funding the water-related investment and in bringing technology and efficiency needed to enhance the working of the water sector.
Further Suggestions
Enhanced access and improved quality of water needed to meet the sustainable development goals cannot be achieved if there is no massive infrastructural investment. Also, because the water sector is currently not receiving adequate funds and is inefficient in developing worlds, PPPs is the only way of improving the water sector (World Bank Group, 2018).
