Dr. Delmonico is one outstanding member and staff of the hospital. With forty-five years' experience and the major role he plays in the hospital, he does really have a strong stature in the backbone of the entire hospital. In fact, the code of ethics as listed in the ACHCA is clear on the things that should be done and the actions involved. From the way Dr. Delmonico has been acting lately, the same has to be addressed immediately.
Just as reported, he has a tendency of getting in with noise hence making the patients feel uncomfortable. This is against the first expectation which highlights the dire need to put the welfare of the people in care as a priority (Ehrenberg, Gustavsson, Wallin, Bostrom & Rudman, 2016). By making noise, the peace and harmony of these people under his care are violated, and hence, this means that he has ignored that pact. Majorly since there is utmost importance to the patients, there has to be a first priority given to them, and their comfort and well-being is paramount in every sense possible (Alexandria, 2014).
From the way he almost mixed medication and gave one of the patients a wrong prescription that could have harmed her, Dr. Delmonico has also violated a second expectation in the code of ethics. Here it is clearly brought out that the person has to maintain professionalism and personal conduct. By ignoring and assuming the medication, he has been able to show that professionalism and keenness have been left out hence making it a risky process to have him care for his patients (Freed, 2017). Furthermore, the same way he makes noise is also a violation of this ethic because he has failed to uphold personal conduct.
Furthermore, the nurse indicated that he had noticed the absence of Dr. Delmonico a number of times but chose to cover for him. When this persisted, he decided to report this to a higher staff but then since the report, nothing was done, and no feedback was given. According to the fourth expectation, this is another violation since as a staff, he should have tried to take care of the matter. When approached, he did ask me to let go and protect a fellow professional even in the grounds of complaints and errors.
These actions should be reported even though Dr. Delmonico is a key player of the hospital and seemingly, he brings in a lot of money too. Therefore, the best thing would be to talk to him about it bearing the fact that patient safety is my docket and possibly look into a fitness check. In the event that it becomes hard, other medical authorities can be asked to intervene and assure patients of their safety. Codes of ethics help physicians stay in line and provide their services perfectly. It is important to adhere to them since they are able to place each of us on the right track professionally (Freed, 2017).
