Contentious debates surround seeking the legalization of Marijuana, however, a lot of attention is focused on the possible effects of legalized. I will scrutinize the key effects that marijuana legalization.
Introduction
Did you know that the legalization of marijuana could generate a lot of income collection on taxes and fees on medicinal and recreation marijuana? The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) classifies marijuana as a Schedule I drug, whereby "a drug with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse" (DEA, 2019). Currently, only four states in the US legalize the use of marijuana for medicinal and recreation, while 20 states consider it legal for medicinal purposes only (DISA Global Solutions, 2019). This knowledge will be helpful to understand the transformation that the society will experience with marijuana legalization.
Medicinal Benefits of Marijuana
- Effective at relieving chronic pain (Medical News Today, 2019).
- Oral cannabis slowdowns the development of some types of cancer, like through cancer (Medical News Today, 2019).
- Relieve post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety, and depression (Medical News Today, 2019).
- Mental health: Marijuana exacerbates prevailing symptoms of bipolar disorder among people (Medical News Today, 2019).
- Slows the development of Alzheimer's disease (Medical News Today, 2019).
Economic Benefits of Marijuana
Boost tax revenue like Washington collected more than $135 million in legal fees and taxes (Investopedia, 2019).
Income and Jobs creation: Creating employment and income for people working in marijuana plantations, and processing (Investopedia, 2019).
Reduce federal government budget: marijuana legalization will lower the cost of enforcement targeting marijuana peddlers, and users (Medical News Today, 2019). For example, the American Civil Liberties Union f budget goes up to $36 billion per year for enforcement on the users of marijuana users (Investopedia, 2019).
Conclusion
Marijuana has more good than harm. People need to be moderate in marijuana smoking to reduce health risks of prolonged marijuana smoking. Marijuana should be legalized and given legal procedures to guide users on how to acquire and use it, especially for economy and medical benefits.
