Holistic nursing is the nursing practice that aims at completely healing an individual in terms of interconnections with the others either spiritually or naturally, the main focus being protecting, optimizing, and promoting health modalities (Nagel & Penner, 2016). Holistic nursing utilizes both doing and nursing therapies. Doing therapy is a form of modern medicine. Nurses work hard to increase an individual's healthspan, therefore regarded as agents of change.

Self-reflection helps me as a holistic nurse to learn about the practice and how to improve my abilities as a way of knowing myself as a nurse in relationships with my patients. A set of principles bases the foundation of holistic nursing (Dossey & Keegan, 2016). The self-care principle states that my self-reflection and self-care, self-assessment, and healing are necessary for service to others and grow my well-being and understanding of my journey.

Holistic and integral nursing bases its foundation on holistic self-care, including the actualization of an individual's potential and well-being and commitment. I maintain an individual's self-care before taking care of my patients. Self-reflection and self-care are necessary to me when carrying out self-assessment. Self-assessment helps me to develop a sense of self-responsibility and adopt a suitable lifestyle that supports all dimensions in my nursing career. Self-care has helped me learn how to act with compassion, acquire self-development, and get personal promotion in my health.

Numerous nursing theories argue that healing consciousness and attention to self as a primary foundation of practice in holistic nursing (Dossey & Keegan, 2016). One of these theories is the theory of health as expanding consciousness by Newman. This theory states that consciousness is the information capacity of the system. As a holistic nurse, I am supposed to have the healing consciousness to provide the best care to my patients. Healing consciousness will help me heal the patient's body and soul, which is part of holistic nursing.

The theory states that health is a manifestation of underlying energetic patterns, and health and illness are a unitary process of order and disorder (Dossey & Keegan, 2016). I should focus on the manifestation of the patterns to attain the patient's healing and regain their health. I should understand the relationship between the life patterns and the unitary process of order and disorder that leads to health and illness. Understanding these patterns helps me as a holistic nurse to know on patterns to focus on that will bring heath to my patient.

The theory states that a sense of disorder is more substantial than a higher consciousness. Therefore, as a nurse, I concentrate on attaining higher consciousness and avoid any disorder patterns that may occur (Dossey & Keegan, 2016). Higher consciousness will help me stay focused on my practice and provide the best holistic nursing to my patients. The theory shows us that human beings are embodied conscious beings (Dossey & Keegan, 2016). Therefore, I provide my care in a process rooted in compassion and responsiveness to the suffering of my patients. I act intentionally from the perspective of the healing consciousness.

I guide my patients through more profound levels of inner knowing to create a greater wholeness for them. These deeper levers emerge during the healing process when consciousness re-patterns and new patterns emerge. During the nursing practice, one may develop a relational connection and human connections with the patient that may result in psychological challenges, social disruption, emotional fears, and sufferings that threaten a nurse (Dossey & Keegan, 2016). The knowledge to hold space between the patients, and I have helped me avoid relational connectedness with the patients.
