Introduction

There was success experienced in the program evaluation process. This project evaluated the pricing of prescription drugs. These are the drugs which patients are advised by their medical practitioners to take to help in the management of their different health conditions. It was revealed that patients suffering from chronic conditions have to part with large amounts of cash every month to ensure that they have a regular dosage of their prescription drugs that enable them to live normal lives.

How many people were reached by the program or policy selected? How much of an impact was realized with the program or policy selected? The program was able to access 80% of the entire population that had been targeted at the beginning of the study, rendering it a success. The respondents were also willing and able to take part in the implementation of the program as they deemed it important since it would add value to their lives both in the short-term and in the long-term.

The impact of the program was realized after healthcare facilities agreed to reduce the price of prescription drugs and make them affordable to all persons.

What data was used to conduct the program or policy evaluation? Data from healthcare facilities was used as well as patients that are on prescription drugs. The patients were used since they would be able to communicate whether the prices charged on the drugs were high or lowe for them.

Some information on unintended consequences included the inability of patients to purchase the drugs and missing dosages because they could not afford the medication. This forced most of them to buy drugs whenever they could afford instead of the recommended dosage.

The specific information was how the price of the drugs affected their affordability and how they dealt with the increased costs of medication that they were supposed to take regularly.

What stakeholders were identified in the evaluation of the program or policy? Who would benefit most from the results and reporting of the program or policy evaluation? Be specific and provide examples. Stakeholders identified in the evaluation of the program are the nurses and clinical officers in charge of the procurement and purchase of drugs in healthcare facilities. These were individuals that were expected to stock the drugs in hospitals to ensure that patients got their supplies on time. The clinical officers also determined the price patients were expected to pay for the drugs.

Patients were the immediate beneficiaries of the program since they would be able to afford the prescription drugs as they would be expected to pay small amounts of prices to acquire them. For instance, instead of paying $100 for a drug, patients would be paying $70, and save about $30.

Did the program or policy meet the original intent and objectives? Why or why not? The program met the original intent and objectives. This is because the aims and objectives were identified at the beginning and it was therefore easy to remain within the frameworks of the study. Additionally, the interaction with the patients revealed more information than had been anticipated about the price of drugs. Most patients were willing and able to reveal more information as they were assured that their personal data would not be used against them in the future.

I would recommend healthcare facilities to stock prescription drugs in bulk and sell them at cheaper prices to their patients.
