Introduction

Internet of things is a term well used to describe the collection of data through well-connected systems and devices endowed with actuators and sensors in machines (Ranger, 2018). Internet of Things is projected to grow tremendously giving birth to a new form of services that offers better quality services to consumers and the overall productivity of the majority of enterprises. Business analysts and entrepreneurs suggest that IoT unlocks a set of opportunities that the GSMA, in other words, refers it to the connected life. Data analysts and IT specialist, on the other hand, believe that IoT has the potential to solve the basic needs of consumers in areas that include energy efficiency, education, health and security (IoT Platforms, 2015). Enterprises deploy the IoT system to ensure effective decision making and underpin solutions that play a significant role in making informed decisions

Given the potential that the Internet of Things is associated with the capacity to achieve tremendous growth, business analysts still consider the technology to be in its initial stages of development. Mobile operators and their partners well known to use the IoT have identified vital issues ranging from health and automotive that provides a broader capacity for growth. A better understanding of these critical features and the opportunity it holds in relevance to developments prospects creates a solid foundation for a better understanding of what the IoT entails.

Internet of Things provides a potential to address much life-enhancing service of consumers across a wide variety of critical sectors. As the IoT evolves, the proliferation of connected devices to serve mobile networks becomes clearer opening opportunities to offer life-enhancing solutions while boosting enterprise productivity (Robin, 2017). Matters of pressing concerns such as security and energy efficiency are best addressed with the IoT system through the integration of both connected devices and cloud-based services. IoT Platforms, (2015) suggest that, through the IoT, integrated smart devices consumers get reduce utility and outage bills and enhance a more effective security management approach via remote monitoring.

The interest lies among many on how IoT operates and can execute its task. Not many ever viewed a world whereby by a phrase of few words, consumers could comfortably control the lighting and temperatures of their rooms, houses or offices. Fitbit and Siri are some of the companies that have proven to deploy IoT system to make consumers undertake different tasks with more convenience (Morgan, 2014). According to well-acknowledged technology giant IBM, data collected from connected sensors can be stored in a Building Information Model that gives oversight on issues such as humidity, fluctuations and motions (Davies, 2017). The BIM model is specifically designed to understand how a building reacts to different environmental factors within specific durations of times. The IoT works no different in relevance to building responses, provided the data has been collected and tracked over a significant period. IBM Watson IoT for instance process tracks information that a building through a specific IoT time. Data generated by the IoT system assists the manager make more informed decisions on improving the experience of living and working in a building, in this case in the construction industry (Davies, 2017).

Apart from the construction industry, the IoT is also used in educational and health applications. Thomas, (2018) suggest that the use of IoT increases access to medical services that cater to the growing demand for health services. Through connecting smart devices to health care processes, the IoT improves many health care services through easy access to age-related conditions and effective monitoring of chronic diseases (Riazul Islam, Daehan Kwak, Humaun Kabir, Hossain, & Kyung-Sup Kwak, 2015). The strain of the health care system is thus reduced while the quality health services to the majority of patients become a guarantee. An IoT application integrates three critical components in the health care system that includes, the doctor, patient and family members (Robin, 2017). The app ensures that feedback to the doctor is given continuously to ensure that medication is followed to the letter. Patients are expected to take their medication on time courtesy of the application, while family members can take care of their patients properly with guidelines from the system (Riazul Islam, Daehan Kwak, Humaun Kabir, Hossain, & Kyung-Sup Kwak, 2015)

Conclusion

Reports by the mobile education solutions indicate a significant fall in the number of dropouts and further point out that a number approximated to be 180 million will stay in school courtesy of mEducation (Ann, 2018). MEducation is an IoT educational facilities that ensure students have easy access to education at considerably lower costs. Enterprises benefit from IoT through productivity applications that integrate data analytics with sensors and printers. The IoT productivity applications enhance change in quality through, effective production, informed decisions and improved food production. The IoT achieves the named functions by ensuring that managers' meetings are based on facts which enable them to make informed decisions (Thomas, 2018) further. In cases where a company orders for inventory, the IoT raises alerts to the nearest suppliers in conformance to the company quality standards and avoid delays keeping client at the utmost satisfaction. Items can also be produced with IoT based applications using 3D printers (Scully, 2018). Additionally, executives and business partners can have online meetings via video conferencing that ensures secure communication. As a result, proximity now is no longer a challenge as meetings can be carried between great geographical boundaries courtesy of the IoT.
