Introduction
Family nursing practice is a specialty in nursing that entails giving medical care to a family. FNP requires one to have critical thinking and implementation skills for health issues that affect the given family. The practice of nursing in for FNP needs a holistic approach and good interpersonal relationship between the family and the health professional. Excellent communication skills are also essential in ensuring that the nursing practice bears best outcomes for the clients.
Evidence-based practices in the nursing profession are one of the critical activities that are advocated for currently. It is essential for master's prepared nurses to conduct evidence-based projects for their professional benefit. Apparently, employing evidence-based practices in nursing profession helps significantly towards the outcomes of the practice as one is likely to avoid the potential medical errors that may occur in due course of giving health care to patients (Schmidt, & Brown, 2014). In the FNP, using evidence based-practices can significantly build trust between the nurse and the family as the family is likely to get the best results in their treatment process.
According to LoBiondo-Wood and Haber, (2017), developing evidence-based projects involves thorough research on the past practices that were done before and got best outcomes. A research model is one of the approaches to developing evidence-based projects. One can easily find information on literature materials as well as consulting the veterans on the nursing profession. After researching available materials, it is also crucial to ask fellow professionals on what they think about the topic. This can enhance the results as modifications and improvements can be made on the results to bear more fruitful and quality care for patients.
My specialty track is FNP. I was motivated by the fact that families often undergo tough health situations at home and may not be able to reach medical facilities may be due to disability, old age, and the expenses of one being admitted at hospitals. Also, it is apparent that some areas especially the rural areas lack adequate medical providers and thus as an FNP, I can cover a wide range and patients of all ages.
Iglehart, (2013), in his article Expanding the role of advanced nurse practitioners-risks and rewards, he states that FNPs are capable of handling a broad population of patients across all ages, gender, and stages of life. The role of FNPs is to diagnose illnesses, ordering diagnostic tests, provide counseling as well as prescribing therapy in many instances. Also, FNPs can as well co-manage illnesses of patients in conjunction with other health specialists by providing case management for conditions that are long-term.
In several states such as Arizona, the scope of practice for NPs is much detailed and explicit whereas in other states much is not clear since their roles are not any far different from the scope of practice of a Registered Nurse (RN). Evidently, the language for an NPs' practice much unclear in Arkansas where the scope of practice of NP is differentiated from that of an RN with a description that they all need to have advanced knowledge and skills in their service delivery.
The issues of clarity on the scope of practice for an FNP are an issue of concern. Nurses are professionals without border, thus the WHO should intervene in implementing policies which state and elaborates the scope of practice for RNPs that should be implemented by all nations (Iglehart, 2013). Factors that may influence the change in the issue is the fact that nurses can work anywhere in the world in their practice of health care service delivery to patients. Also, it is essential to avoid role conflicts within healthcare which can adversely affect the productivity and morale of the FNPs, and thus clarifying and stating the scope of practice for nurses is most important (Yee et al., 2013). Several organizations and the government often sponsor some health activities, therefore having a clear picture of the roles of nurses can enable the sponsors to know whom they will be dealing with.
The American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACCN) master's essentials entail educating learners to have collaboration inter-professionally for the improvement of patient and population health results. Besides, translation of scholarship into practice is essential for the master's program in nursing (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2013). Evidently, the essentials support evidence-based projects in FNP practices.
Conclusion
In sum, FNP as an advanced practice nursing is significant specialty area that entails giving care to families. EBPs are essential practices for the FNP practice. As a master's prepared nurse for advanced practice as an FNP, it is essential to incorporate EBPs into practice for optimum health outcomes of the patient and population.
