I am Jay Lomax an undergraduate student conducting research under Wilfred Lauriers Master of Social Work Program. We aim at studying the importance of First Nations Front Line Child Protection of workers in the workplace, as well as, traditional medicine. The research aims at educating workers on the benefits and importance of traditional medicine. We would appreciate getting a chance to consult you regarding your experience in this field. We plan to gather your information through questionnaires that will be distributed to First Nations Child Protection Agencies.

The survey will be conducted online, and will be 20 to 30 minutes long. A participant will be required to complete the survey in full without quitting. The survey will also require the participants to examine other workplace stresses and give various ways of stress management. The survey will determine the importance of actions workers can take to minimize stress. Such actions include changing their lifestyles through the use of traditional medicine, hobbies, activities, intra-organizational consultancy, coffee drinking and other physical exercises. The questionnaire will require the participants to list aspects that may suit them stress management as First Nations Protection workers, provide the various stress management methods that have either or not worked for them, how they understand their rights as employees, how they may implement union memberships and human resources.

Participant to the survey should have a background to Metis, First Nations or Inuit. Participants are not required not to give personal information or feelings on given subjects but behave as though they are colleagues on child welfare and give decisions as they did in previous research. We guarantee privacy in participant information as it will be coded. Direct identifiers will be removed from the information and be replaced with codes that can only be identified by the holders of the keys to the codes.

On accepting the consent form, the participant will be provided with a link, www.surveymonkey.socialworkerstress.ca, to fill in the online electronic survey. Participants are required to remain online connected once the survey resumes since data may not be saved for the next login. The keys to the coded data will be properly secured away from the information and controlled by the researcher in charge.

Participants should note that participation in the study is voluntary, and an appreciation token of $20 will be given in return. This study is approved by the University Research and Ethics Board. The data and findings to the survey will be published in articles, journals, Childrens Aid Society of Ontario websites, First Nation Newspapers, local media and Adoption Council of Ontario. The survey will be time conscious and precise. If anyone has a concern regarding the ethics of the survey, please contact your immediate supervisor. Thank you in advance for your interest in this survey.

Sincerely,

Joy Lomax
