Introduction

Professionalism in education denotes the effective understanding and application of professional norms in teaching. As such, wider professional practice in education is to the effect that it helps ensure that teachers have the necessary skills to undertake their professional activities, which will not compromise education goals. In the same vein, students are afforded quality education by the skilled teachers who impart the required knowledge and skills to the students. Based on this fact, it is worth noting that wider professional practice in education targets both the teachers and the students. I worked at a University as a lecturer in which the lecturer’s role is to impart knowledge and skills to the student through constant interaction with the students during classroom and outside classrooms. As such, imparting knowledge, in this case, took the form of formal and informal engagements. This report comprises some of the experiences and undertakings that justify broad professional practice and development in education and training.

Professionalism

Professionalism in the workplace is devoted to the way an employee carries him or herself during their undertakings. Succinctly, Professionalism encompasses an individual's conduct despite the term’ professional’ being associated with careers that require extensive learning while also paying very well (Scotland, 2016). Professionalism is not limited to certain professionals since some occupations with modest earnings such as plumbing, hairdressing, and masonry can demonstrate Professionalism. In the same token, occupations such as law and engineering considered worthwhile can demonstrate very little Professionalism. Professionalism in this particular occupation is coined around certain factors related to how teachers interact with students. As such, maintaining a high level of positivity among students, dressing properly and in a respectable manner, and being time conscious further Professionalism in education. Based on the underlying factors, appreciating and incorporating them into the broad environment among students will bring out the best not only from the teacher but also from the students.

Accordingly, Professionalism in education does not stop with the conduct exuded among students but goes further to include how the teacher portrays himself and his colleagues. It is imperative to maintain a good relationship among colleagues in a learning institution who might help you understand the various norms of that particular institution. This is most effective in the case of new teachers. Additionally, exuding professional conduct among colleagues and other staff members can be denoted through sustaining from the blame game when things do not work out as planned, avoiding complaining a lot, maintaining a high level of respect, and acknowledging the status of other staff members. These are to the effect that they will portray professional conduct in the learning institution, which inadvertently translates to a lot of respect among colleagues, staff, and even the students. Consequently, this will lead to improved individual performance and also the students’ performance.

Dual Professionalism

Dual Professionalism encompasses expert knowledge in learning and teaching and imparting skills and knowledge to the student at the same time. Teachers and trainers evidence dual professionals in that they are experts in their respective fields and at the same time are required to use their expertise to teach students, thereby making sure that they produce the best results from the training or teaching (Scotland, 2016). As a matter of fact, that in the case of dual Professionalism in the education sector, a high amount of time is spent in specialized teaching while the lowest time is spent in maintaining codes. As such, it can be inferred that dual Professionalism envisages specialist teaching. Therefore, teaching students through specialization in specialized subjects succinctly results in better outcomes. The teacher is provided with a platform to teach or train students in a subject and a manner they understand best.

Influence of Professional Values

Professional values indeed impact the area of practice, and in this case, they impact the role of teaching. Having asserted the need for Professionalism, Reichl (2019) proposes embracing values that embrace the importance of the occupation at hand. Values such as respecting the students, being time conscious, and complimenting the students and other colleagues and staff are imperative. As such, professional values influence the quality of teaching in that they enable the smooth running of the education session. Additionally, the values enable proper preparation and also the avoidance of mistakes in the teaching process. As a teacher, the professional values are to the effect that they enable the teachers to notice certain risks and take the necessary steps to mitigate the risks that might occur to him or the student during the process.

The proper organization, especially for a teacher, manifests through a proper timetable, has a positive influence on the education task. As such, the teacher can bolster his chances of having an effective and non-interrupted teaching process since he is and to organize the teaching according to the way he has organized. Proper organization is to the effect that it prevents confusion. At the same time, professional values boost confidence in the teacher's case as he can present the learning materials in front of the class or through any other media of interaction with confidence. Additionally, students who are taught embrace a positive learning environment and are confident with the learning process. Therefore, advances of professional values in the education practice are positively affected, especially to the students and the teacher.

Educational Policy

Abbot (2013) posits that education policy has ethical laws as underpinnings that form the basis of the education industry's foundation and operation. Based on this fact, social, economic, and political factors are coined to influence laws and rules that influence education in society. The views that are demonstrated by society can influence education policy. The media has a strong influence on society based on the matters it advances. Therefore, any matter reported by the media is likely to have an impact on members of society. This means that if the media covers and reports anything negative, then the members of the society will protest about the news, causing changes to be effected by the government. Based on these protests, the government will be mandated to remedy the cause of concern. Therefore, policies made concerning education will be mostly dependent on society's social views, which have briefly been influenced by the media or other underlying factors. It is worth noting that while working as a lecturer, some parents and students may portend views which criticize some policies that need to be changed. Based on the influence that society has, the parent's and students' views may go as far as shaping education policies.

Politics shape education policies where the political temperature, especially political fights, has been detrimental to schools' capability to advance the goals of education. This is based on sentiments made by various means of institutions against the changes made by political parties to education policies. Additionally, Coughlan (2015) proposes that education policies that are detrimental to the schools should be scrapped off completely. This is based on the fact that they tend to affect the school culture and the performance of the students. Coughlan (2015) notes that many schools in the United Kingdom face challenges concerning policies that are not effective in these particular institutions. As such, the conflicts within and without affect the stability of these institutions.

The government controls the education budget for schools. According to Kirk (2020), the education budget has significantly reduced over the past couple of years. This reduction arises due to the savings plan that the government portends. As a result, the education sector occasions budget cuts and reduced resources for students and other staff. While working as a lecturer, some of the problems that faced a majority of us and my colleagues were the poor working conditions evidenced by strained resources put into use in the education institution. Additionally, as Kirk (2020) noted, some students doing some specific course face difficulties in getting educational materials to learn and the support required to advance their goals. Therefore, economic climate impacts education policy since the people involved in making policies will have to use the funds available, whether little or more, when writing education policies.

Educational Policies in Practice

Aleman (2016) posits that education policies denote a set of rules and laws which serve as guidelines for the proper functioning of the education systems. As such, education policies are coined to address the objectives of education and advance methods that are found imperative for the betterment of education. Therefore, the gist of understanding the impact of educational policies is underpinned by critical analysis of the creation and implementation policy process and the analysis of policy documents related to education.

Education policies that seek to advance vocational qualifications have made a massive impact on the National Occupational Standards. It is worth noting that this denotes the requisite standard that a worker ought to achieve in his practice area. As such, it ensures better performance from the workers by setting the bare minimum. Consequently, the national occupational standard policy advances the interests of education thus, it has significantly impacted my lecturing role. Additionally, through NVQ health and social care advance requirements, the policy forms part of the NVQ curriculum, whose intent is to ensure there are knowledge and understanding in the health care setting. Such learners are required to demonstrate full knowledge and understanding of the underpinnings of care in their practice.

Educational policies require to be coined in a manner that seeks to address the demands of employment. (Bank, 2008) proposes that the government work with partners and stakeholders involved in education delivery to ensure that an education policy is formulated that positively impacts the curriculum. The high standards deny the efficiency of an education curriculum that it demonstrates. In this case, the high standards are evidenced by the high capability of learners meeting employment demands and the ability of learners to be at par with the demand of the employment market.

Conclusion

Thus, educational guidelines such as The Education Act and New Labor govern the United Kingdom jurisdiction. However, the guidelines portend a non-supportive system, especially for the children who are not well off. As Berlyne (2016) illustrated, students who perform better in schools are placed in better universities. This is good in the sense that their need for education is catered for. However, through its policies, the government fails to address the surrounding conditions of the students in the university. Therefore, there is a concern as to whether the students have the appropriate and enough resources to achieve their university goals. Berlyne (2016) notes that there is a fundamental problem, especially when it comes to resources.
