Introduction
The reopening plan of New York City elementary and secondary schools for classes in September is a complex and uncertain logistic based on the cause of the closure. New York City has been an epicenter of coronavirus, forcing learning to be swift to online classes. As from the recent past, COVID-19 data collected has been indicating a reduction of new infections. At the same time, there is sufficient evidence for the primary and potential conclusion that the curve for coronavirus cases is flattening (Harris, 3) Therefore, New York City elementary and secondary school should reopen for classes in September.
Reopening Plan
In July, the mayor released a plan for reopening of schools, although there is a likelihood that classroom attendance will be limited only 1-3 days a week (Matthews and Villeneuve n.p). In the same parallel, research avows that 75% of the parents want physical learning to resume. Mayor Bill de Blasio wants the schools to reopen but not entirely. The decision for partial reopening will help to curb the outbreak of the disease as the education system will be trying to bring all students back to classrooms. Reducing the density of students is the best way to reduce the spread of the virus (Matthews and Villeneuve n.p).
The superintendent of schools, Richard Carranza also supported the reopening of schools. He suggested strict protocols to be followed to ensure the safety of students and the community, wearing facial masks and thorough cleaning of education centers. For social distancing, the superintendent proposed grouping of students such that few students attend physical classes in intervals. The redesigning of the educational system will, therefore, need the national participants and stakeholders to come into agreement to avoid tension and ease adaptation among students and staff (Matthews and Villeneuve n.p). Main objectives being planning the school programs for the challenging year due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Trump Position
President Donald Trump, on the other hand, wants schools to open. As highlighted in an article by Matthews and Villeneuve, the president has the intention of pressuring both state and local schools to reopen. The president indicates that there are many disadvantaging factors based on online classes. For instance, not all students can access the internet and online studying devices; this means that all students will not be on level ground. There is a die need for resumption of classes despite the spiking cases of COVID-19. Recently, New York City has been showing low transmissions of the world pandemic virus setting promising progress for the reopening logistics plan for schools.
As mentioned by Reich and Mehta, however, reopening of schools requires community-wide effort (n.p). With all citizens of New York City adhering to healthcare measures and standards, a reopening plan should be done. Also, more preventive strategies for the safety of people's health should be put in place. With all the fourth phase of the plan, there is a need for cation since reopening of schools would set more of outdoor activities.
Conclusion
In conclusion, New York City elementary and secondary schools should open. Still, reopening logistics should be nailed basing on the fact that the region has tried to limit coronavirus infection rates. Reviving of schools will encourage physical learning rather than online learning, which detriments marginalized citizens. Proper guidelines should also be presented to assure the community and students safety after the reopening of schools. Prior education and awareness should be done by the Nation Leaders on how to be safe during outdoor activities.
