Introduction

The research project focusses on establishing the prevalence of type 2 diabetes among socioeconomically disadvantaged populations in Chicago, United States (USA). The project majorly emphasized areas with high numbers of immigrants, and individuals aged 40 years and above. The decision is based on previous studies, which indicated that the condition is more common among individuals who are older than 50 years (Eberhardt, Casagrande, & Cowie, 2016). The project mainly targeted married Hispanic and black male individuals with relatively lower education levels. Besides genetic or biological factors, this population faces the risks of acquiring type 2 diabetes from their daily social and economic activities and other behavioural influences. The vast majority of adults’ age between 40 and 65 years of this population are insufficiently active (Kyrou et al., 2020). Decreased physical activity and an increase in sedentary time are likely to contribute to high chances of developing the condition. These minority populations are characterized by low incomes and less education, making them three times more vulnerable to the development of the disease. The inadequate resources limit them from meeting health standards and dietary patterns as prescribed by the medical professionals.

The project's approach will focus on the active involvement of the stakeholders to ensure maximum collaboration with the chosen populations. First, I will arrange for a general meeting for both patient and non-patient stakeholders to introduce each one of them to their roles. For instance, the local government's civil officers will focus on maintaining order and preventing crime during the study. Health providers will assist in the creation of awareness by providing health education to the population. During the meeting, I will discuss the significance of involving the patients' perceptions in the study (Schmittdiel et al., 2015). In doing so, patient stakeholders will feel less intimidated and, therefore, fully participate in achieving the project's objectives.

Although the condition is established to be more common among the minority populations, there is little information that relates the disease pattern to the insurance system of the US. The changing landscape of the health insurance system in the country results in underinsurance among minorities. To obtain secondary data on this subject, I will visit various healthcare databases such as PMC, and other research projects conducted by medical organizations concerning the topic. Furthermore, I will read through the collected data from the sources and assess them to provide reliable and valid information to address the gap. The study's main objective is to ensure medical coverage and improve the health status of the minorities, especially towards type 2 diabetes.
