Enactment of the Proposed Policy
It is worth noting that the existing regulations and policies regarding type 2 diabetes are sufficient. The occurrence of type-2 diabetes is due to lack of knowledge concerning dietary terms for proper and good health. Additionally, most of the people within the affected population outlined that the physical practices towards a healthy approach for minimizing developing type 2 diabetes should be revised and communicated to the affected population. In this regard, the fi4rts strategy is the education that serves to protect the rights and the remedies the people affected by type-2 diabetes. The professionals to create and subsequently maintain position statements. The professionals or the association has to establish, review, and maintain the most follow and authoritative clinical practice guidelines, recommendations, and standards on the dietary requirements and the treatment for diabetes. The association should then publish (on professional journals) the guidelines on the dietary requirements and the management and development on diabetes research for easy access by the public.
The education on diabetes is usually comprehensive since it encompasses education the decisions makers, the people with diabetes, the lawyers, and the advocates. The decision makers include the school nurses, the diabetes educators, and the others who have the opportunity to provide training to the staff at school. Towards this end, the training modules should demonstrate the partnership with the mentioned people to with the objective of creating and implementing discrimination-free and safe environment. For example, people with diabetes face discrimination in the law enforcement on employment matters. Therefore, the professionals should collaborate with American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) to create the necessary regulations and guidelines for the law enforcement agencies to legally and effectively evaluate the occupational capacity of individuals and then allocate those duties, positions, and responsibilities accordingly. The stated proposal should then form part of the internal approval process, meaning that it will have great degree of significance for physicians and employers who evaluate potential employees for various law enforcement positions. Additionally, it is imperative to educate the people with type-2 diabetes. Most of the people between 18 to 64 years portrayed, lacked sufficient diet management mechanisms as a way of preventing type-2 diabetes. Patients and the public should always be taught about fundamental practices that should be directed towards maintaining good health and better lives (Bauer, Schillinger, Parker, Katon, Adler, Adams, & Karter, 2013). Since it was discovered that lack of self-discipline is the overall barrier for people to adhere to dietary changes, the public should be carried through tips of surpassing ignorance on good health to save the universe.
Effects of Existing Laws on Advocacy Efforts
The main aim of the advocacy is to provide the necessary information on dieting and diet management to the relevant individuals as a way of managing and preventing type-2 diabetes. Regulations on food directly or indirectly affect the dietary choices of the citizens, the varieties, and the quality of the food available in the market of the people to consume. Additionally, the policies affect the foods available in the shelf, the information about the product available to the consumers, the prices charged at the counter, and the degree of confidence that the consumers have in the product in question. For example, food-labeling regulations allow the identification of the food as natural, dolphin-safe, not irradiated, kosher, organic, or made in a particular place (Karnik & Kanekar, 2014). People will consume the products depending on their truthfulness or misleading nature. Such will certainly allow the foods that have low sugar content and purchase them. If the information therein were misleading then it would work to the contrary for people with type-2 diabetes that need to consume products low in fats and sugars.
Most of the policies tend supplement the dietary war on type-2 diabetes. For example, the World Health Organization (WHO) proposed the restriction of the exposure of junk food advertisement to the children (Bright & Sakurada, 2016). The organization noted that food advertisement normally affects the dietary habits and influences the food choices. Therefore, most nations, the United States included, adopted the policy since it sought to prevent the exploitation of children's credulity and inexperience. The law is particularly relevant in this case since it will protect people, mostly the relatively young ones, to the exploitative nature of junk food advertisement. Such is essential in the fight against consumption of unhealthy foods, which is in line with the objective of the study. Notably, the adoption of the proposed is necessary since self-regulatory pledges are usually insufficient and may not have the desired effects. Closely related to this is the fact that the US has robust co-regulatory structures for the reformulation of food. The objective is to improve the health of the population by upgrading the nutritional characteristics of the processed foods consumed commonly. Such works in tandem with the policy proposal. Reformulation is necessary since it includes the reduction of sugar, salt, and the content of the saturated fats in the processed foods. Finally, the higher level of taxation on sugar-sweetened carbonated drinks changes the behavior of the consumer by increasing the cost of the items. In other words, the use of tax as a deterrent is in line with the study.
Methods for Influencing the Legislators
The first method will involve individual briefings and meetings. I will hold briefings and meetings aimed at presenting facts and analysis of the proposed legislation to various legislators and their staff. In addition, I will meet individual legislators and convince them on the need for proper dieting as a means of managing diabetes (Weible, Heikkila, & Sabatier, 2012). Considering the most appropriate time, establishing the venues for the meetings, sending advance information, and highlighting the crucial information are some of the activities I will undertake. Secondly, I intend to send emails and make phone calls to the legislators and their assistants to book meetings. Finally, I will use public hearings, public forums, and discussion to try to pass my message to the legislators. Such may happen through social media, mass media, and public meetings to try to reach out to the legislators.
Obstacles in the legislative Process and Solutions
The first hurdle is the political interests that mainly arise because those in power are normally reluctant to advance any idea that does not advance their interest. Overcoming such an obstacle require meetings and briefings aimed at convincing the political class of the benefits of the proposed piece of legislation. Secondly, financial obstacles pose serious challenges as well. It is important to solicit for funds from donors and use the same frugally to ensure the achievement of the objective. Finally, the policy obstacle is a major threat to the proposed legislation. Developing a good policy rationale by looking at the problem and the solution the policy intends to solve will go a long way in eliminating the any policy obstacles.
