Introduction
Since I was confident that I had performed my duties as required, I decided I would deal with the situation by controlling the conversation over the issue that has developed by sticking to the facts of the case. That way, I knew the specific resolution for conflict would be for all of us to revisit those facts. Additionally, I settled for this strategy because it allows for resolving conflicts without the need for the concerned parties resorting to reactive tactics (Smith, 2018).
Communicating with My Case Manager
Smith (2018) advise people dealing with workplace anxieties to approach their problems and communication head-on (para. 12). Contacting my case manager allowed us to discuss my perspective. I, therefore, headed to the meeting knowing I had one seasoned professional in the social work field who would support my point of view. That knowledge calmed me down.
Listening to Music
I love music because it has a soothing effect on me. I have always observed that music calms me down when I am dealing with a stressful situation. Listening to music also allows my mind to drift away from thinking about the problem I am facing. As a result, I took my earphones with me to the meeting and, before the others got to the venue, played my favorite playlist. Focusing on the rhythm and the instrumentation in the music drew my mind away from the impending matters of the meeting, thus, calming me.
Adequate Preparation
Because I was expecting I would have to present a defense for the report I made, I took time going over the data I had collected to refresh my mind on all information concerning the subject matter of my duties, the findings I made, and the conclusions I relied on to compile my report. I also rehearsed my presentation. These activities increased my self-confidence and conviction concerning what I needed to do, which significantly settled my nerves.
