Growing up, I came to realize that my father was a sportsman. Every evening after work, he would go out on the field and play different types of games such as basketball, hockey, and rugby. He was so good at basketball that I asked him to train me. This is why I was motivated to start the Shining Star Hoops Academy. Besides this, I have conducted research in my community and realized that most children do not engage in sports due to lack of facilities and support.

I am the founder and director of the Shining Star Hoops Academy. I have 15 years experience in the game of basketball. I have conducted 25 basketball clinics that have helped over 1,500 youths. I have earned different accolades in this game including the CBA rookie of the year award. Besides this, I have a bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Texas. I believe that there is still an opportunity to learn more and is the reason for which I want to join this program.

There are different things that I want to study that will help me in supporting the youths in this academy. I wish to provide an all year round training for youths in the game of basketball. Due to this, I want to study the professional aspect of basketball. I want to have the knowledge that will guide me in recruiting professionals that can provide high-quality training to the youths in attendance to enable them to get high-quality lessons that can help them to advance in their careers and take the game to the next level. I want to learn about the most effective ways of dealing with young people. This is because this population is faced with different challenges that are sometimes ignored. Above all, I want to study leadership skill that can guide me in leading the academy.

Since its implementation, the Shining Star Hoops Academy has accomplished different goals that are worth mentioning. In 2016, the academy held a summer camp for basketball players and trainees. The academy had initially planned for 60 athletes, however, on the day, the number doubled and this was an indication that the academy is in the right direction. More of this summer camps have been conducted in the past and has become part of the academy. The current upcoming event is the summer camp to be held in 2018.

I believe that I have a bright future with these youths. The completion of this program will give me the skills to create a team of professionals from all walks of life. Therefore, I see a future in which the youths will not lack any kind of professional knowledge they need to play the game perfectly. I also see a future in which the youths will not only learn how to play basketball, but they will learn important skills for living a positive life.

Conclusion

As an undergraduate, I believe that this program will provide me with the opportunity to work with different professors in this department. I am committed to this journey and I know that I will accomplish it with the help of these professors. I am prepared to work diligently and tirelessly to ensure that I achieve my dream.
