Nursing managers are essential members of the nursing fraternity insofar as management and oversight are concerned. In their line of duty, nursing managers are bestowed in them the mandate to supervise patient care and make budgetary decisions, among other responsibilities. In that regard, nursing managers engage in financial planning, financial monitoring, financial control, and financial decision making on behalf of their nursing colleagues (Naranjee et al., 2019). In other words, nursing managers are responsible for understanding the general healthcare costs to improving the quality of medical services and patient experience. The financial tasks bestowed upon a nursing manager consume a considerable amount of their weekly working schedule. On average, of course, depending on how rigorous the environment is, one may spend approximately 60% of their time streamlining such issues. It should also be noted that nursing managers do not operate devoid of challenges as they are faced by several of them, especially in their fiscal environment (Financial Management in Nursing, n.d.). One major problem affecting nursing managers is inadequate funding. Funding in the nursing sector is challenging tasking, especially in developing countries. Increased workloads sometimes push a nursing manager to seek additional human resources, which could be expensive and daunting, causing human resources headscratcher. Other factors affecting them could be contextual in the sense that rules and programs could overlap. Thus, posing a financial challenge in the effort of their alignment (Ghiasipour et al., 2017). Based on the difficulties that nursing leaders face concerning financial matters, they could consider pursuing a financial management course. The skills derived from the course could save future managers the burden of having to learn through trial and error, which could result in financial blunders. Future leaders may also consider consulting with existing leaders on financial matters, especially those already in the profession. They could benefit from this practice by learning practically with a field they are familiar with, considering most financial learning institutions may be shallow in that regard.
