Introduction
The objective of OSHA is to prevent injury and illness among workers. The standards proposed by OSHA for occupation safety and health management programs (SHMP) are management of leadership, worker involvement, identification of hazard and assessment, providing education and training, program evaluation and improvement, and coordinating and multiemployer worksites (Richardcounsell, 2016).
Benefits
OSHA should implement these standards because it enables employers to identify and correct all the hazardous threatening the health of employees. The correction of hazardous is intended to be in line with what is needed. Coordination and communication on multiemployer worksites section should be implemented. The policy requires that an employer should initiate a mechanism to direct their efforts and pass information aimed at ensuring that all employees and their representatives on-site can take part in strategies to inhibit illnesses and injuries. Additionally, the policy ensures that workers are accorded equality in protection in case of hazards.
The OSHA new guidelines are in line with the national and international policies on safety, therefore, employees would learn extensively on safety measures which they had not learned before. The workers will have full cognizance on the risk found in their working station and get more skills in the methods used for them to be more secure. OSHA offers educational training and workshops that benefit all workers irrespective of the type of job they are performing. The federal government implements the policy; hence its application is uniform across all workers. There is a lack of confusion among workers in understanding the policies; this is because it affects all variety of workers irrespective of their companies and working sites.
Program and evaluation improvement is fundamental to ensure that safety approaches proposed are implemented as stated. It explains what is working and what is not and if the program is achieving the desired targets. Hence, it reflects on the steps taken to obstruct injuries or illnesses before they happen (Osha.gov, 2016). Management leadership is beneficial to companies because it offers resources, vision, and leadership needed to set up an efficient safety and health program. It makes sure the health and safety of employees in an institution is a priority (Lamar.edu, 2018).
