Introduction
Everything in the world is subject to change due to modification or introduction of new knowledge; this explains why there is no constant thing in the world expect change. As from the recent past, the field nursing has undergone an evolution, something that has changed the scope of practice and the approach to treating clients. At many times, nurses and researchers develop certain ideologies to improve health care delivery systems to nursing care and clients seeking medical services (Stolley et al., 2000). The evolution and growth of science correspond to societal as well as a lifestyle change. In this paper, the focus is to discuss in detail and demonstrate contemporary trends in the field of nursing, particularly on nursing practice.
Nursing practice has changed over time and this evolution has changed the scope of practice and approach to treating the individual. For instance, Sana (2014) avowed that the development of Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation from Airway Breathing Circulation (ABC) to Circulation Airway Breathing (CAB) aided the distribution of oxygen in the brain and the heart hence decreasing the risk of brain damage and damages in the critical organs of the body. During that period, further changes were introduced from CAB to DRSABCD, meaning nurses were supposed to check for Danger, Response, Send help, check the Airway, check the Breathing, commence Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to 2 breaths and lastly apply Defibrillator (Sana, 2014). These additional steps enhanced the outcomes of CPR as well as augmenting patient safety.
The pathway for nursing education has evolved. Based on the practice of associate and baccalaureate nurses, the competencies look similar in that they both integrate knowledge skills and judgment (Ghaffari, 2017). However, there is some difference between levels of performance. In terms of training, an associate nurse focuses on technical skills while baccalaureate nurses are trained in research, leadership among others. The scope of practice between an associate and baccalaureate nurse based on the competence to take care of patients in a healthcare facility; associate nurses can only take care of patients with fewer errors.
Nursing care differs between the BSN-prepared and the ADN nurse. Based on a patient with difficulties in breathing, the care of BSN nurses will be more beneficial as compared with care provided by ADN. BSN nurse is trained to apply evidence-based practice and critical thinking whereas ADN is only technical oriented and most of the education is based on critical when taking care of patients (Ghaffari, 2017).
Evidence-based practice to nursing care is significant because it helps nurses to provide effective care. Evidence-based care is based on available evidence, and at many times, it has been proven to improve patient outcomes (Ghaffari, 2017). The academic preparation of the RN-BSN nurse supports its application for the fact that they are trained to apply it every time they take care of a patient.
Nurses today communicate and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams efficiently, accurately, and promptly (Gausvik et al., 2015). The interdisciplinary teams allow improved collaboration and communication among nurses for a reason that they believe it is an important tool that can prepare nurses with the necessary skills as they work as a team. The communication and collaboration of nurses with interdisciplinary teams support safer and more effective patient outcomes for the fact that they can create stronger relationships, solve problems, exchange information share resources, and corporate with one another.
Conclusion
In conclusion, nursing practice is not static because of the emergence of various principles that are being undertaken. Nurses are taught on the old guidelines, but with time they are forced to change to meet the current conditions in delivery of safer and better healthcare services.
