Introduction

This horrible incident and experience which occurred the last year 2019 when my very closest friend was involved in an awful accident as he was driving on his way home from work. He was severely injured, with most of the injuries being on his wrists and minor injuries on his head; however, he was still conscious and was very much aware of what was happening around him. After a considerable blood loss on the scene, a kind road user helped him to get to a level 5 health center, which was several miles away from the scenic spot. Applying the concepts of the three process models in the health center, the operation process to be specific was inefficient. Usually, a level 5 health center is always to its optimal Capacity; thus, registration of patients is mostly delayed to many patients. As such the patient was still in pain and his condition was even worsening as a result of slow system responses and slow customer care services on the platform-this was due to a low number of customer care ratio to the number of patients.

Additionally, after his registration went through the system, he was prescribed to be admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) where he was to be closely monitored and examined as his condition was still worsening, at the ICU, this is now where the real deal was, as the platform was overcrowded and patients were scheduled. Scheduling was inevitable because one doctor in Kenya is entitled to serving an estimate of 16,000 people regardless of their geographical spread- whether they work in private or public health facilities. The world health organization however, advocates for one doctor is to 1,000 people. Scheduling is done to ensure that the available resources are successfully matched to the needs of the patient.

Unfortunately, the doctor at the ICU had little knowledge and skills on how to improve his services delivery by matching the available resources with the needs of the patient. After waiting eagerly for his turn to receive attendance, there was an emergency report from the facility that the blood reserve in the refrigerator banks was insufficient and could not last for more than 24 hours. Therefore, the hospital management had to take the initiative of calling out to the patient relatives and friends for blood donation. The message was delivered in the form of a threat that if the family members and friends could not come forward for the gift, then their patient will not be attended to until they comply with this request.

Detailed Explanation

The management failed to observe this scenario at the right time, which led to diverting attention from providing services to patients to testing and collecting the blood received as a donation for the entire week. As a result, the health facility operations were altered by this sudden but demanding operation. Finally, after a long struggle and fighting for his life and the support got from his family members, he recovered, and without wasting time, he was discharged from the hospital premises. The incident would have been different if the health center had been equipped with a healthcare scheduling computer software, which increases efficiency in health care provision operations. The software also ensures the optimization of the available resources in allocation according to the needs of the patients. The management should have appointed personnel in charge of monitoring the blood bank refrigerator and give occasional reports on the same usually weakly or even on a dilly basis according to the size of the bank.

Why I Chose This Model For This Situation

In this context, however, other models could also be applied; for instance, BNQP healthcare criteria for performance excellence could be used as it provides a roadmap to excellent performance. The model also saves time and resources by moving quality care given to one patient to all the patients instead. The interconnected system model could also be applied as it focuses on the integration of the workforce with technology, which results in guaranteed quality within less time duration. Lastly, in the sociological framework model could also be applicable since sociology helps understand the behavioral change among human beings and notably patients, and also helps us explain the relationship that exists between them.
