Introduction

Morality is required throughout human life. Through daily social interactions, the need for morality arises, and therefore, the people concerned need to decide on the decisions to make. The choices can be moral or immoral, depending on the situations and the contexts in which the decisions were made. We need to discuss the ethical issues that revolve around the issue of choosing to abort or keep an unborn child with special interests given to the moral issues surrounding the pregnancy. It is also essential that we also discuss the problems concerned with the rich and poor in society, and see how their interactions can be moral or immoral.

Abortion can be moral or immoral. The morality of abortion depends on whether the pregnancy poses a risk to the mother through its existence. If it does, then the moral thing to do would be to eliminate it for `the greater good' in this case being the mother's health. There are, however, calls from some ethicists claiming that abortion is selfish; in that, it only looks out for the mother's issues, forgetting that the fetus is also a living being whose rights should also be looked out for. Poverty and wealth are society’s phenomena.

Wealth is the ability of individuals to have an excess supply of resources to cater for their needs. At the same time, poverty is the inability to provide for one's financial needs, thereby leaving them unable to meet their basic needs. Some ethicists have argued that wealth shows the lack of morals in society, whereby people amass so much for themselves in total disregard of others, creating poverty in the society. This being so, the ethicists further argue that the poverty experienced in society creates dependence on the rich, which creates a situation whereby the rich exploit the poor for them to offer them any help.

Dependence and self-reliance are morality issues. From the case presented above, the problems of morality are weighed against two examples of societal issues, which have created different opinions. While some argue that if a medic prescribes abortion, then it is a good call, others say for the sake of the party that has not been offered a voice: the fetus. The fetus is fully dependent on the mother, and therefore should be looked out for, although abortion is selfish if looked at from that angle.

On the other hand, poverty and wealth are issues on whether the people in society are dependent on others or self-reliant in addressing their material needs. It is argued that poverty is due to the greed of some individuals in the first place, thus creating a situation whereby the poor people have to be dependent on the rich, bringing in the issue of morality. Morality advocates for human dignity, but poverty puts people in situations where they lose their dignity as they depend on the wealthy in society.

Everyday activities require the application of morality. Some societal setups leave situations vague and open to the interpretation of the parties involved. Therefore the individuals' moral stand and beliefs will be needed in arriving at the final decision. The morality of the people involved will need them to overlook their personal preferences and goals while pursuing the achievement of moral societies that address the needs of everyone, including those whose voices are not heard, like the poor or unborn babies.
