Medical treatment of uninsured patients and those without money has become one of the most challenging issues in the medical sector. Hospital owners have been on the loggerheads on whether to dump them or have the treatment as usual. Hospital owners need to understand and set strategies that would address this increasing population of the uninsured patients.
As a CEO of a hospital I would employ the following policies; instead of dumping the uninsured patients, I would set policies to have them placed in separate rooms aside from the emergency rooms. This would ensure that they are under medical attention all through. Medical treatment is a very costly entity, and finances need to be to see the operations of the hospital run smoothly. Having these patients would not only see that they are taken care of but also save their lives.
For patients who need very urgent medical attention, for instance, women in labor should be taken care of by a qualified doctor until the women become physically fit. Life should secure regardless of whether the patients can take care of medical expenses or not. Safeguarding of life for my patients should be my number one priority before financial expenses or stability of the hospital. I would also employ interhospital transfer for patients who are not seriously in an emergency situation. Patients would be transferred to other hospitals with specialized facilities ready for the patient. This would not only keep the hospital in check financially but also help the patient get medical attention in time.
Also in a bid to build a reputation for my hospital, I would set up a system that provides charity care for the uninsured individuals when they are in an emergency situation and requires acute care. Having a hospital that everyone looks after for medical care is one of the most important aspects that hospital owners look for. Hospital is mainly meant not only to make money but also to be the icon of medical healthcare in the society. As the CEO of a hospital, I would accommodate the uninsured and those without money. Patients will view the hospital as their only hope when they can afford the bills and this in the future would mean increased patient turnout and thus more income from patients.
Improving the performance of inner city schools need the entire school fraternity to take charge of the school affairs for change to occur. One of the ways to find great principals with a better reputation. Experienced principles help shape the schools through better policy employment. Students have always proved to be hard to manage and therefore experienced principles would best fit in shaping their character. In order to have the principles execute their work, I would give them the full power they would need.
The other way to improve inner city schools is through creating competitive markets with charters, voucher, and also by establishing small schools to ensure that students receive sufficient attention. A competitive market with charters helps improve the schools' quality as this would attract better services. Establishing small institutions is another great policy to help uplift the standards of inner schools. Smaller schools present a way for students to be served and treated greatly. This improves the performance of the school at large as there will be an environment for everyone to give their best.
Conclusion
In summary, Patient dumping has been on the rise as a result of patients not meeting the financial requirements of the hospital. Uninsured patients should be taken care regardless of their financial status. A number of ways have been employed to improve the performance of inner schools; these include creating market charters, vouchers, and also establishing small schools.
