Introduction
Centers Urgent Care offers a diverse set of services that many residents of Queens utilize. In Urgent Care, the facility mainly specializes in providing non-emergent healthcare conditions. Their services include the treatment and care of common injuries and illnesses such as scrapes, fractures, sprains, burns, cuts, bites and stings, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pains among others. The hospital is comprised of physicians, nurse practitioners, and nurses who work together to meet the needs of their patients. While the population in Queens area population of both aging and young people, the need for physicians to take care of many Medicare patients is a priority.
Urgent Care has more than sixty affiliates which form a part of the larger CityMD Urgent Care group. Moreover, Urgent Care offers both preventative and diagnostic care including well visits, immunizations, and other annual physicals. The most standout feature of the Urgent Care is the availability of affiliated smaller clinics that are situated within the area making it convenient for patients to utilize. These clinics increase the availability of appointments and many patients are attended to within the shortest time possible. The center serves both adults and children of 6months and older. In recent years, the center embraced the use of technology and have developed an online booking system that enables patients to book their appointments. This platform enables the facility to provide convenient care throughout the year.
My personal experience as medical assistance in my externship program at the center was rewarding in many ways. Since arriving at the facility, I felt at home. Everyone one at the center was welcoming and very friendly, with each one of them ensuring that I got answers to whatever question I had. I was fascinated by the equipment in the facility that included many resources that give many care options. Urgent Care Center accepts scheduled patients and walk-ins as well. For this reason, all the Medical assistants in the facility, as well as the other staff, had hectic schedules. Although things can get all bit hectic, doing several things at a fast pace makes the day very exciting, and there is never a dull moment during work.
Normally, I would clean and sterilize equipment and exam rooms before patients arrive. This makes it easier for doctors and nurses to help patients. Also, I would pull the patient's charts and ensure that I update the insurance information. Medical assistants are tasked with the responsibility of submitting updated insurance data and also assist in sending the final bills and invoices of clients. Moreover, I am usually the first person to attend to patients just after checking in. My responsibility included directing the patients to the respective rooms and collecting information from them through questionnaires which help in updating the patient's medical data.
Working at Urgent Care made me realize just how much medical students are appreciated. My trip to Queens New York was definitely beyond my expectations. My most significant highlight of working in Urgent Care was the experience of working in such a busy facility and attending to such some patients on a daily basis. The supportive environment and flexible at Urgent Care were just what I wanted in a Medical Assistant externship program. My dreams of becoming a medical assistant in the future were aided by the amount of guidance that the faculty and staff gave me. My love for this field encourages me to further my education and become a Medical Assistant in any of the facilities across the country.
Conclusion
Center Urgent Care offers an accredited Medical Assistant externship program that prepares medical students for a career in the medical field by offering hands-on training, courses, and lab experience that covers patient care as well as administrative work. Following the completion of this program, students earn their certification and are ready to apply for Medical Assistant positions and other related positions as well.
