Introduction

Throughout my childhood and early adulthood, my homeland country (Iraq) underwent a difficult period in its history. As civilians, our lives were adversely affected by years of wars and economic sanctions. However, I coped with the harshness of living in continuous violence by developing a growing inner passion for peace. Amid the hardships, I knew that education would improve my life. Through my strong ambition and hard work, I secured admission to Baghdad University School of Dentistry.

After my graduation, I accomplished a one year General Residency program, of which two months were dedicated to endodontics. I was fortunate to complete my residency at an esteemed facility so close to my home. I also gained practical experience performing complicated procedures like apicoectomies and root canals. In September 2010, I worked in Al Fallujah hospital. By then, Al Fallujah was one of the most dangerous cities in Iraq, but I remained focused on my work by providing excellent dental care. The harsh working conditions did not deter my desire to provide health care for desperate patients in the war-torn city.

In 2011, the deteriorating political and social condition forced me to leave my family, country and job. Luckily, I got admitted at VCU School of Dentistry. Working with the underprivileged and the sick inner city population of Richmond inspired a conviction in me to offer help in any way that I could. Consequently, I joined community outreach projects in the U.S, which include the Children's Health and Maintenance Program, and the Special Olympics and Wise County MOM projects. I worked with the Christian Dental Society with Dr. Bill Griffin in Jamaica during the 2016 summer, and I am proud of the gesture that I extended to the less fortunate people in Jamaica.

In 2017, I joined the UDM AEGD program in Detroit. The program enhanced my fine-motor skills and knowledge of oral health since I met inspiring mentors that guided me to develop critical thinking judgment. They also taught me the skills required to accurately diagnose and treat plan cases. I explored and used a variety of endodontic systems during my training. By then, I was moonlighting at the Children Health Center in Detroit, where I treated unprivileged children from Detroit. I executed procedures like restorative, root canals, extraction, and space maintainer placement to the children.

After graduating from AEGD in 2017, I started working with Family Dental Group in Grand Blanc where I am doing root canal treatment regularly. Consequently, I can test and work with more endodontic systems. As I eagerly await entrance into an endodontics residency, I strive to improve myself by shadowing Dr. DiwakarKinra and Dr. Angela Dekock at their clinic. Working with the Family Dental Group helped me gain practical knowledge and additional opportunities for diversified health care professional. My passion for self-improvement and continued learning led me to join AAE and JOE, and my purpose is to continue this path towards an increasingly comprehensive interpersonal perspective while narrowing my professional emphasis on an endodontics specialty

Although patient care is what drew me to dentistry, I soon discovered the pivotal role that academic research plays in the field. I had the privilege of participating in a study focused on 'Rich Protein and secretory IgA Levels as Salivary Markers in Association with Prevalence of Dental Caries'. This project allowed me to hone my ability to analyze data and think critically on the existing literature. I collected data from my patient pool in the AEGD clinic. I spent significant time with Dr. Mahare viewing couple researches and writing the article. I am confident that with my research experience and natural inclination towards investigation, I will be able to apply new insights to clinical practice.

In conclusion, throughout my life, I have strived to be the best that I can, and I will continue pressing on until I achieve my career dreams. I am confident that I can become a responsible and productive candidate for your program.
