Introduction
Joe Erhmann is one of the great pioneers of coach for America. His other name is Joseph Charles. He is a former national football league defensive lineman who pioneered the 10th pick within the first round of the 1973 NFL Draft as part of Syracuse University to the Baltimore Colts.
Masculinity
The crisis of masculinity in this context refers to an endgame complex created by the societal predefinitions, expectations, and perceptions of the male. According to Joe Erhmann, the three myths (the three B's): Ballfield that is athletic ability, size, strength, skill set; Bedroom, sexual conquest; Billfold, the economic success. Once these expectations are not met or compensated they spawn a complex called alexithymia, an amalgam from A-for without, Lexi-for words, thyme-for emotions and feelings. This ballgame is defined as the inability to put emotions and feelings into words, a psychological condition. Alexithymia further breeds covert isolation, a situation where one is unable to enter meaningful relationships with fellow human beings, manifested by isolation and substance abuse. These cultural definitions (social mandates) resort men to a deficit they seek to compensate with alcoholism and drugs to relieve and medicate them. Subsequently is the terminal stage which is violence and has been exemplified in American society through gender violence, terrorism, mass shootings, and the like.
Effect of the crisis of masculinity on both genders
The crisis of masculinity has far-reaching repercussions, cut across male and female gender. A case in point is the issue of gender-based violence that has been perpetrated against the female. Equally important, is the interconnectedness of both genders where detriment on one gender permeates the impact even to the opposite gender (Fisher, 2016). It is imperative to infer that to a great extent; the woman has always suffered. The wider American society has also borne the bane of masculinity crisis in that counts of mass shootings, terrorism, and sadistic actions have become prevalent. All these boil down to the disintegration of the fabrics of the American society precipitating an era of social chaos and generational instability.
Joe Ehrmann's coaching philosophy
The hallmark of his training is grounded in mentoring and nurturing boys to become men of empathy, responsibility and change the world. Again, this is a participatory approach since parents' decision making about the prospects of their kids takes precedence (Lyle & Cushion, 2016).
My reaction to the video clips
His acumen imbues me in matters of life, physical and psychological development, and societal relationships. Seemingly, he has a hands-on approach to what ails our society. He is not emphatic on being result-oriented, rather mold the personality. He is a reformer, further reinvents the wheel in redefining our perception and viewpoints. A take home from what have watches would be, "All of life is about relationships is (to love and be loved)-to love and have that love reciprocated." To me, it was an insightful experience.
Playing under a coach using similar strategies as Joe Erhmann
I feel it would be a plus since it would exploit out the best in me. This can be attributed to his approach; the first coach the character. Joe cultivates the values and virtues of discipline in the game, moral courage, teamwork, gratefulness, and all aspects that build up personality. I concur with his approach since there is more than just the game (Garvey et al. 2017). He is keen on harnessing talent to transform lives and the society at large. Even of greater importance is that he is a passionate coach. Has been brought up by the game, being personally involved, he knows what it takes. Nonetheless, the downside of nurturing into men and women could perhaps, be based on the fact that sport is an enterprise and a multi-billion dollar business, lose its fandom and recreational nature infused in it. Although this will hurt the profiteering culture, it boosts the society a big deal.
Strategies for Erhmann can be employed
These strategies should be the code of practice, the stipulated methodology, and approach. This practice is perfect and workable for society. I will adopt them like a duck to water. I am positive about how he cultivates personality as a precondition for the game. He meets moral standards and ethics before he deems fit for one to partake in the physical game (Gilbert, 2016). His approach is also versatile since he is both a sports coach, dabbling as a life coach. He thus puts premium to the moral welfare of the society, solves and provides real solutions to our challenge. A man motivated by the burning desire to leave a legacy by saving the generation.
Additional comments of interest
Joe Erhmann, passionate about the interrelationships in the society is cognizance to this. The personality and discipline are a pre-requisite for the physical life. Hence, much time needs to be devoted to life training skills (Parks, 2016). I am of the view that, Joe's philosophy should be incorporated into the American set of beliefs, the wider national goals, and philosophy. This will engender reliable generations for posterity, founded on these principles.
