I interviewed at the Bolton Wanders Soccer Club in Bolton to get answers for my numerous interview questions. My interview was to involve my previous representative soccer coach, but unfortunately, he had retired. Since I could not fail to conduct my interview, I resolved to interview the assistant coach, Mr. Andre Gilbert to the Markham Majors AAA Team boys under 13. I requested him through an email to find time with me to interview him since it was very imperative for my sports management course. The purpose of this report is to explore the interview responses from the assistant coach.
The interview questions were satisfactorily responded to by Mr. Andre Gilbert. He stated that every day starts with a review of the schedule of the week, they develop practice plans and scouting the opposition. He argued that he decided to pursue a sports career as a coach when he was young because he enjoyed participating in games and sports at school. As he advanced through his sport, he realized that he wanted to teach and give back what he had learned from his mentors and coaches. In the third question, he asserted that the best aspect of the job was to be able to help persons in fulfilling their potential as well as realizing their dreams. He least enjoyed traveling and dealing with injuries. Mr. Andre Gilbert argued that sports career is pegged on personal qualities of an individual. He opined that the sports industry just like most professions had changed rapidly. For instance, the information age has changed the way we view the game. He went ahead to say that communication and inspiration are essential in achieving a dream in our contemporary world. The best coaches put their team first before prioritizing other things.
He argued that the specific job options within sports career are Managers, coaches, scouts, marketing, sales, analytics, media, and video. Also, he pointed out that the opportunities with a major sports organization are countless. He told me that after school, I could start my career as an assistant coach and work my way up just like other successful professionals. This is because learning to apply what I may have learned in school from those more experienced could be an invaluable opportunity. The job market of sports industry is highly competitive. It is hard to get a job and therefore, most coaches, scouts and agents begin with their local sports clubs and organizations to gain knowledge, experience and to develop their skillsets. There are numerous companies such as minor hockey program, Canadian Hockey League (CHL), Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and University programs that hire those who have advanced in the sports career.
There is no specific educational requirement set aside, but coaches are required to pass a national certification program. Additionally, he told me that degree certificate in a sports management course is vital since companies and organizations always look for people who could display good initiative and experience. Mr. Gilbert told me that he could not regret his decision of pursuing his career because he enjoys and passionately loves it. He wants to manipulate his skill to help people to realize their potential in games and sports. In the next five years, he is aspiring to help those who do not have the opportunities of realizing their potential as well as dream.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I was impressed by how Mr. Andre Gilbert satisfactorily responded to my interview questions. I learned many ideas about sports from the interview responses. The interview made me to passionately love my sports management course since I learned that it would help me achieve my dream career.
