What advantages and disadvantages are there when using panel interviews?

Panel interviews are important, especially where an instant decision is not required since a lot of time is dedicated by the interviewers. This can lead to making good decisions. Additionally, panel interviews are time-saving as all interviewees can ask connected questions at the same time hence, a common answer. Similar information is also provided in a panel interview hence, no issues with indifferences in delivered information.

Panel interviews can also be disadvantageous as the members take long to agree about hiring hence, affecting the candidates. This may lead to the disqualification of potential employees. Additionally, panel interviews are expensive leading to performance that is seen as less than the potential.

What valid reasons did Robert provide to persuade Paul to choose Jacqueline?

Robert convinced Paul by telling about the experience of Jacqueline. He adds that Jacqueline is enthusiastic, has good interpersonal skills, and adaptable around new people. Robert also tells Paul that she is among the minority whereas there are no minorities in Beck 'n Call. He adds that there should be no discrimination and that Jacqueline is a potential employee.

If Robert made the decision to hire Jacqueline because she was married, would Sonya have a case against Beck 'n Call under Title VII?

Title VII does not cover any marital status hence Sonya would not have a case against Beck 'n Call.

"It shall be an unlawful employment practice for an employer to fail or refuse to hire or to discharge any individual, or otherwise to discriminate against any individual with respect to his compensation, terms, conditions, or privileges of employment, because of such individual's race, color, religion, sex, or national origin" (Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964).

Is Robert's decision to hire Jacqueline legal? Why or why not?

Robert's decision to hire Jacqueline is legal. Robert maintains an effective selection system and makes a decision based on similar presented qualifications amongst Jacqueline and Sonya. An effective selection system entails a detailed understanding of the characteristics that could lead to high performance (Ivancevich & Konopaske, 2013, p. 219). Taking Jacqueline for the position implies that Beck n' Call is not discriminative and neither does it target the minorities for its positions, but only the qualified candidate.
