Introduction
In holistic health, there is the consideration of the whole person including their body, mind, and spirit. In a holistic approach to healing, the progress goes even beyond just eliminating the various symptoms associated with the client. Most of the holistic approaches consider hlis6tic medicine with traditional as well as complementary medicines.
Introduction to the client
The project entailed an assessment of a client in a holistic approach. An open-ended qualitative interview was used in this case to find the descriptions of the client regarding his experiences in healthcare provided through holistic health. The data collected was used in the analysis of the findings. The response from the client was the provision of safe and secure personal and holistic health care with high quality and in an effective approach. The client was always provided with trust and safety as well as quality healthcare that met the needs of the patients. Some of the needs met through a holistic approach to the patient were accessibility and appropriateness in the level of care. The client responded to have been provided with care by an Advanced Practitioner Nurse who had knowledge and skills necessary to deliver quality health care approaches. It was not only their problem per se that was attended to but also treating the patients as normal people with a focus on them as a whole. The approach to healthcare was characterized effectively by accuracy, sensitiveness, and attentiveness in a level that the client could let themselves be attended to by clients through trust.
Research Findings
The results of the research indicated that the client was satisfied with the professional holistic approach provided to them, as well as the health care provided. This has been similar to a similar case noted by McInnes, Hiller, & Gardner (2013). Care providers contribute well to the improvement of the aspects of safety and quality care for their clients. Most of the clients tend to receive poor care as a result of improper application of a holistic approach. The client's accessibility to healthcare was increased while their time in therapy and other attendances was reduced through the approach. Jennings, Lee, Chao, & Keating (2009) note that an individual holistic approach was an important framework for better practices in the healthcare setting. The client was not only safe in the setting but also confident of their caregiver. As a result, he would communicate openly even of his private life with the care provider.
Theories and practice
For the holistic health education, much-personalized care can be employed in the integrative medical setting by showcasing some qualities of empathy in learning theory and health promotion theories. One ought to possess various personal virtues including values and shared beliefs with those of the patient. Additionally, one should also be able to expand their medical know-how in health promotion for effective collaboration with other health care professionals including consideration of other overlooked variables. One should be able to approach challenges with results and conclusions within their evidence-based medicine as well as the practices and treatment within other areas of medicine. Finally, the approach should also consider the ability to develop and make use of the most effective communication methods in teaching concerning other psychometric instruments used in self-evaluation and regulation of workplace behaviors. These practices may include skills in listening to the narrative of the patient, as well as finding details and other information that can influence their therapies.
Goals
Short-term goals:
I would aim at communication skills in 5 months where I would be developing effective communication skills with the patient, as well as their family, and other healthcare providers at the institution. I would identify the various hidden agendas, find some of the psychological issues and work with the aggressive client. I would then find out if the goal is met by measuring the level of aggressive behavior.
I would ensure the setting up of basic clinical skills in 3 months. It is through this that I would develop and refine the skills required in providing effective primary care to the patient. Some of the strategies include having inventories and physical examination as well as enhancing decision making. To understand if the goal has been met, I would talk to them to understand the compliance issues related to them as well as the risks and benefits in therapeutic decision making.
Long-term goals:
In holistic health and awareness, I would aim for five years of promoting the wellness of the client by letting them realize the correlation between their everyday experiences and their mental and physical health. I would know of the progress of the goals by administering multiple opportunities for the client to engage in physical activities for them to reduce their stress. I would then measure their stress level by assessing their improvement.
I would also aim for five years of creating learning spaces for the client to ensure that they are placed in a safe and secure environment that well supports independent, collaborative, as well as experiential learning for clients. I would check to see if there are instances of overcrowding at the institution hence, assess for the effectiveness of the goal.
Teaching Strategies
Teaching methods are important components in enhancing the knowledge regarding holistic care to a medical setting (Jasemi, Zamanzadeh, Valizadeh, Keogh & Taleghani, 2015). I expanded my theoretical and conceptual framework to admit other ideas and possibilities, and it is through it that o learned to cope up with the challenges arising from the case. I used the ZB method of teaching that considers body-handling therapy through a conscious touch. The advantage with using the ZB method is that it positively impacted my therapies on the client. Every bit of the method including consciousness and touch could affect the practice and performance of every activity in treating the client. The strategy is all rounded as it overlaps every kind of thinking and equips one for life in ways that culture or schooling could never equip me. I selected the strategy as it combines sensory awareness, either in normal or expanded conscious levels hence, the edge in a holistic approach.
Evaluation of initial teaching
The projects content and presentation method is coupled with various advantages and limitations. Some of the advantages include enabling the learners to be acquainted on demand when they are motivated; the tutorial can be done independently, having less ongoing staff time, and making it easier to skip sessions if one is not a beginner in learning. Additionally, using the tutorial as the initial teaching method can lead to the devising of tutorials by experts even though located at various organizations. However, there are also limitations including the impossibility to be inquisitive or learn from others who have questions on the topic, having a more dense presentation as a result of self-contained content, the need for enough motivated individuals for completion of tasks, and the time taken could be longer for novices especially in their setting. The use of tutorials can also be labor-intensive and hard to maintain. Additionally, it is also difficult to choose between questions or practice problems, and the length that should be consumed. The client responded well to the initial teaching as they were a fast learner hence, the ability to skip some of the sessions. I could also administer some teaching practices while at a different location from the client since they were readily acquainted with most of the information.
Teaching is, however, coupled up with various impacts to the adoption of holistic care by nurses. The various components of an educational structure including educational programs, teaching techniques, and an educator's competence, do not prepare nurses well for holistic care since the content of the teachings is not based on any philosophies of holistic care. One of the approaches to better holistic care was identified as the revision of various lessons.
Client's response to the project over time
The project was successful and effective as reported by the client. However, at first, the client could complain of poorly defined goals, which only targeted decision making and communication. I also had sufficient skills, alongside my other team members. I made sure that tasks such as teaching were assigned to the relevant people, not because of their availability, but because of their ability to handle the tasks with professionalism. The client exhibited great progress in instruction and teaching. However, having transferable skills as goals for the project was a weak foundation of the project hence, I needed to adjust and make other long-term goals to keep the project moving. I also never had deadlines for meeting certain tasks such as instruction. However, with time, I adapted and adjusted effectively to suit the schedule hence, not let myself struggle with the expectations that were laid out. However, my communication considerations initially phased out deadlines, and the project would move well until it became more effective when I set deadlines. Some of the tasks within the project were challenging and at the same time demanding at various levels of knowledge and expertise. Therefore, I decided on training some of the team members to meet the required skills for the project's success. This enhanced the knowledge and at the same time ended the skill gaps existing during project implementation.
The client would also complain of the lack of uniformity within the environment, as well as insufficient professional norms. It is these cases that were identified as factors that lead to the loss of interest in professional and ethical values for nurses. These factors contribute to the poor provision of holistic care to most clients. Poor conformity with the norms of a workplace is an issue that leads to weaker holistic care and discouragement of patients to seek treatment from the medical setting.
Evaluation tool
The evaluation strategy employed in this case first began by perusing through the collected data to ascertain that the reader is familiar with the content. Next, the data was read to find out the meaning of the units as well as notes taken during the assessment. Finally, the data was well arranged according to the useful data first, which included primary data, the secondary data for the approach. The approach, therefore, considered the application of linear analysis in data evaluation as it is considered simple when data is arranged together. The main meaning in the analysis of data was that the provision of safe and sound healthcare through a holistic approach by the caregivers. The client reported of satisfaction of the services provided by their caregivers and as well noted some difficulties in understanding at the primary stage, but acknowledged the changes made to address the challenges later.
Reflection
Client progress
The client's response provided positive feedback showing the enthusiasm for such a project soon. He responded to the provision of healthcare in its beneficial terms to them as patients. However, he noted that in the future, there would be the need to formalize, develop, and implement certain roles in any healthcare setting. The client also first noted of the poor setting of goals including both long-term and short-term ones. However, he responded that it would occur in any setting, especially where the researcher did not formalize well with their client.
Future changes
