The availability of good medical infrastructure in a nation is achieved through the use of an effective healthcare model. Examples of the primary models of care used by some nations include the Beveridge Model, Health Insurance Model, Bismarck Model as well as the out of the pocket model. The video titled PBS Frontline, Sick around the World provides a comprehensive discussion of effective healthcare models employed in the United Kingdom (UK), Germany, Japan, Switzerland, and Taiwan and also illustrates how the identified models of care have promoted the quality of medical care in the stated nations.

National Healthcare Insurance Model

The National Healthcare Insurance Model is among the healthcare frameworks discussed in the PBS Frontline, Sick around the World video and it has extensively been implemented in Taiwan. In this model, there is only one insurer - the government - and it is compulsory for all members of the public to pay monthly contributions to the policy (Palfreman 2008). Also, the government restricts the growth of the healthcare sector by maintaining a specified number of public and private medical institutions where the public members can receive healthcare services through their National Healthcare Insurance model. Additionally, all public members in a nation - Taiwan - are required to have a national medical insurance card through which all their medical histories are stored.

Beveridge Model

The Beveridge Model is the second healthcare model that has been discussed in the video PBS Frontline, Sick around the World. Additionally, in this model, healthcare coverage is provided by the government through tax payments collected from public members and institutions. The Bismarck Model according to the stated video is largely implemented in the UK (Palfreman 2008). Additionally, that is where the government caters to all medical services offered to all the public members covered by the government-sponsored healthcare services (Bhattacharya, Hyde & Tu 2014). Additionally, under the Bismarck Model of healthcare cover in the UK, doctors in medical facilities are paid fixed salaries by the government and not by patients receiving treatment in medical facilities.

Bismarck Model

The Bismarck Model is the second model that has been substantially explained in the video PBS Frontline, Sick around the World. In this case, the video stated that the Bismarck Model is principally utilized in Germany. Additionally, the Bismarck Model employs an insurance system whereby the insurers in the nation are characterized as sickness funds. Additionally, in this model, the medical insurance cover for the public members is financed jointly by employees and employers, through the payroll deductions (Palfreman 2008). Additionally, under the Bismarck Model, the government inserts a price control on all medical services offered to the members of the public in the nation.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the video titled PBS Frontline, Sick around the World provides a comprehensive discussion of effective healthcare models employed in the United Kingdom (UK), Germany, Japan, Switzerland, and Taiwan.
