Introduction

Gathering for Gladys by Tom Dodge presents the story of Ronnie Dawson, a musician who, despite having a small platform, has attracted several people, including the working-class youths who had affection for the 1950s dress styles (202). However, Dodge explains that massive following was because Ronnie was the reason for Elvis's fame, and the two once participated at the same show at Dalla Sportatorium. The majority love the postage stamps of Elvis. The article also shows that Ronnie's dad was similarly a musician known for his Pinky Dawson and Merrymakers bands in the 1930s. Unfortunately, although Ronnie has longed to understand the musical background of his father, the dad's life was cut short while he was still a teenager. Besides, as he continued to hope that his mother Gladys would tell him whatever he needed to hear, the mother also died abruptly without sharing the information. In Rockport’s Guru of Granite, Dodge presents how the moroles of Jesus Bautista are famous and has gained the attraction of several people. Examples of his renowned arts include the Spirit Columns, Vanishing Edge, and Texas Stele. Like Ronnie Dawson with his bands, Jesus Bautista utilizes his knowledge and skills to incorporate every attractive feature in his arts, such as famous individuals (191). One of the morals has the image of Hillary Clinton. Ronny similarly uses the image of Elvis, to gain more fans.

In the Jilting of Katherine Anne Porter by Tom Dodge, Katherine explains her dissatisfaction with the education standards offered in the USA (183). She explains that there is a "ship of fools" in the USA who call themselves intellectuals. People no longer understand the true meaning of arts, while they concentrate so much on activities that give them fin-like sports and watching TV programs. Yet, almost three million residents in Texas cannot read the labels on the medicine bottles. According to Katherine, education administrators, parents, and leaders have failed to engage in training and nurturing practices that leverage the levels of critical thinking abilities among individuals. Katherine understands that it is through being creative that individuals can appreciate the role of arts in society and even use them to protect their lives. For instance, one must be able to understand the labels in medicine bottles, to know the purpose and other components contained in that bottle. However, in Johnson county Dreamin by Tom Dodge, Johnson depicts how youths in Texas are still dreaming and have not realized their potentials to be creative enough (186). Johnson's idea coincides with that of Katherine that teenagers are still not creative. As shown in other articles by Tom Doge, the arts help one to gain fame and popularity, but it is purely as a result of being creative. As a result, Johnson and Katherine urge youths and every responsible stakeholder to perform activities that do not limit teens from thinking outside whatever they have or what they can see, for self and collective benefit of Texas County.
