Introduction
Typically, I actively prioritize my clinical experience gained throughout the week's practicum activities, to be part and parcel of my professional knowledge and skill enrichment on matters of project accomplishment and all possible hurdles or barriers. For instance, the project of integrating various health information systems altogether at the Living Hope facility acquitted me with the skills of using HIS to promote the quality of healthcare delivery for the patients.
I also had a positive feeling because of the teamwork and communication skills I gained. I can also evaluate the project as one of the best strategies to eliminate errors because the HIS made it easier for us to collect all the relevant patient data for use for crucial decision making. On reflection, I learned that mistakes regularly occurred during the integration stage, and more attention should be put forth to reduce the occurrence of errors. Positively, the goals of improving patient safety were attainable, as proper working HIS at Living Hope, makes it easier to detect the mistakes prior before they cause failures in the system (Buntin et al., 2011). In conclusion, I gained more confidence after the week's practicum activities and noticed that there was no failure in making mistakes.
During the implementation of the project at Living Hope health facility, I intend to establish inter-connectivity that would promote efficient data sharing among the team, for more accessible communication. It will advance the patient's experience, safety measures, and security, which are vital factors in a healthcare-based environment. Promoting communication would also make it easier for the team members to share ideas of the current issues like the Covid-19 in particular, and make appropriate proposals to reduce its impacts on patients and every stakeholder of Living Hope. Besides, I will define definite underlying goals and also commodify the collected data to enhance the integration of the health information systems. Ideally, knowledge and skills on HIS also prepared us to apply evidence-based practices (doing infection controls, measuring oxygen use in patients, etc.) in offering ethical care plan for the patients within the timeline. I am also looking forward to accessing patients' PHI as stipulated by the HIPAA guidelines to improve patient safety and security within healthcare. Lastly, I am planning to use HIS ideas to create more accurate health records for Living Hope, to increase its productivity and reducing the associated healthcare costs.
