Introduction
The NCO 2020 strategy is a leadership development program that aims at educating, training, and improving the leadership abilities of the Non-commissioned officer professionals in the army. The program is aimed at enabling a continuum of professionalism, skills, and prowess in the leadership and development of NCOs who train and lead army officers so that soldiers are always ready for combat and as well have proper means of handling the challenges that keep on arising in the 21st century (Bailey,2015). The paper, therefore, focuses on elaborating on the relationship that exists between the NCO 2020 Strategy and leadership development in the modern and evolving world.
Training
There is a need for consistent training and education of future leaders for maximum human performance and development (Bailey, 2015). As a leader, I need to be trained on better ways of handling situations in a way that will ensure maximum efficiency and readiness for combat. I should as well be able to train other leaders on concepts learned overtime to ensure continuity of great leadership skills that are needed in the rapidly changing world. Commitment, resilience, and competency are the core principles that I should possess as a leader, and therefore, through the Noncommissioned Officers Education system, these principles are outlined as the core ideas to being a progressive soldier (Bailey,2015). It also leverages innovation and provides a general outline of how leaders and soldiers will be trained and educated in the future. The world is constantly changing and therefore there is always a need for adapting with modern times. As a leader, it is imperative that I always strive to keep up with the times in order to thrive in times of chaos and to always come out victorious. Old techniques cannot be administered to win modern wars and therefore, the NCO Corps mandate is to ensure that the soldiers change with the times.
Leadership Development
In order to achieve all these desirable leadership skills, there is a need for progressive leadership development through the Noncommissioned Officers Education System ranging from self-development to institutional and operational development (Hollis, 2017). The future army will rely upon well-trained NCOs who are properly and efficiently ready for the task. For this to be achieved, their performance must be greatly optimized through sufficient training and education. As a soldier, my success in the field is greatly determined by how well-motivated and trained I am as an individual as well as a unit. The NCO 2020 Strategy is a vision that comprises of three main components. These components are development, Stewardship of profession, and talent management (Hollis, 2017).
Conclusion
Development involves progressive growth and learning experiences of individuals through training, experience, and education throughout my life cycle as a soldier. At every stage of my career, there is always something new that I have to learn so as to keep up with the changing world. Talent management refers to the expansion of the knowledge I already possess as a soldier in my field and outside my field to maintain my ability to perform my tasks as required. To increase an Army’s chances of winning, there is a great need to study and implement leadership development programs and their successes or failures. This will also ensure that future conflicts and unpredictable combats are won and as well increase retention across the board as quality leadership will motivate soldiers to remain in the Army and begin their own path towards becoming a senior NCO.
