To me, professional commitment means the desire to stay in a profession as well as a sense of responsibility towards the particular challenges and problems for the nursing profession. To me, the desire to wake up every day and provide care to patients who need it is very important. Secondly, commitment to the profession means that I feel personal responsibility towards the problems that plague the nursing profession and the people whom I am meant to provide care for. At the moment, I feel deeply troubled by the long term effects of the coronavirus.

I strongly believe that nurses as lobbyists are essential to the growth of the nursing profession. As times have demonstrated, it takes intense lobbying for things to be done effectively in the US because legislation seems to drag behind industry needs. As a result, the government and society as a whole have needed to be pushed to keep up with new realities. Hence, I believe that for the nursing profession to grow and keep pace with the demands of the contemporary world, nurses are required to be lobbyists too. Besides, being the caregivers, nurses know exactly what is required for the profession.

I do feel that nurses believe that there are ethical concerns related to nursing informatics, chief among them being the safety and privacy of patient information due to hacking. The advancement in technology that has made the provision of care possible is also clouded by serious ethical concerns because hackers can access and misuse confidential information about the patients. Recent data breaches on a vast array of organizations and companies have demonstrated that personal data stored in computers and remote servers is not safe. Besides, nurses are also concerned that overreliance on the technology may compromise the provision of care in cases where the technology is unavailable.

The use of health informatics technology has had a tremendous influence in my current practice. First, it has led to the reduced workload which is critical to the delivery of care because it has given me more time and energy to concentrate on the actual task of attending to patients. With reduced paperwork, I get to have fewer administrative tasks, thereby having more time and the energy to give care to the patients. Secondly, the technology helps me to reduce errors, just like Huston (2019) outlines. Without technology, it is easy to be overwhelmed by the number of things that need to be monitored, raising the possibility of committing medical errors.

I feel that socializing with colleagues is beneficial in creating a better learning environment primarily because of the input and experience that is shared through the socialization process. In the course of learning, I have come across colleagues who have more experience in general as well as others who have specialized in some areas of nursing. Their experience is beneficial to me because it gives me confidence and knowledge about things that I am yet to encounter. Also, when I encounter problems during the learning process, it is often easier to access a colleague than the tutor.

Conclusion

To sum up, one of the key elements in motivating clients to improve health behavior and outcomes is engaging them with some responsibilities in the management process. By engaging them, clients feel a sense of responsibility for their health, thereby turning them to active participants. Huston (2019) advises that making the client a part of the decision-making process to their recovery helps in motivating clients. For example, in the decision to either recommend exercising or change in diet, the client can be consulted on what option they prefer. The family plays the role of both a motivator and enforcer, especially when the patient is a member of a close-knit family unit.
